It's been raining... [a lot.](https://ecency.com/hive-178265/@gtpacheko17/large-storm-in-my-area) So I woke up today and saw this. Some a-hole decided it would be a good today to just ram his tires right where my house meets the dirt road. It was looking even worse in the morning before most of the water had dissipated, I had to find a suitable spot to jump across so I could then start walking, and not that that would be of much use since the whole's road is muddy like this. Looking the other way didn't help, it was a jump regardless. Now, it's easy to keep myself focused on the absolute buffoon who did this, but no. If it were not for one thing, it wouldn't be like this. And it's this where I'll introduce a part of my city. It was only in 2013 that we gained independence from another larger city called Içara. We were far, we attracted a lot of tourists because we have a beach, and we were very different, it only made sense. This beautiful map showcases my beautiful mouse drawing skills, where the red line is the cut-off point between Içara and the newly independent not so almighty Balneário Rincão. Back then, Brazil was ruled by the Worker's Party, a coalition of lazy individuals who claimed to be socialist but did the most capitalist things imaginable with public money. That Worker's Party craze got one of their politicians elected as mayor and for four grueling years he did absolutely NOTHING. We though becoming a town would help, but because of this, it in fact didn't. Our taxes were funneled to a party that did not care about us and a mayor that lived in Criciúma, at least 25km from here in a straight line. Great, huh. So we elected a new guy, Jairo's the name. He started off promising some crazy good stuff, and the man actually delivered, I'm afraid to say it but a politician actually kept his promises. In the next 4 years he built everything he said he would, paved all the roads he said he would and built a nice new park near the commercial area of town where it attracts the most tourists but that's also nice for the locals in winter. Our economy boomed, the housing market actually improved with more people wanting property, more sales being done, more competition, less everything being stale, more businesses opening, etc etc. So what's the problem? Well, we elected him again, he did good the first time, right? So he's gonna do good the second time as well... Or at least that's what we though. Sure, he's built a new park in my neighbourhood. And he's working with the state governor to get easier access into the town via the Quick Access road that links up to the federal highway but... that's it. These dirt roads are going to stay as dirt roads. Me, my parents, me neighbours, and everyone else in this god damned street has been going to town hall meeting every single time demanding for it to be paved while he paves things that are "beneficial". But it's become awfully clear when the last "beneficial" road he paved was this: What about this road? Well... It leads directly to a supermarket... A supermarket owned by his family. I don't know if conflicts of interest are illegal here, but that sure as hell is scummy. Ignoring the calls of your population for over 6 years now and even having a sign in the middle of that new paved road saying how much the municipality paid for it just feels like a slap in the face. And is the road in front of my house so useless that it can be ignored? Absolutely not. It has quick access to all the other streets in my district and could be used if paved to travel faster to another district that's in the far reaches of town. It's used extensively, and not only does that get it into disrepair often, it also fills the houses of those living here with dust... Not to mention it lowers our properly values by a f*** ton when compared to those just two streets down. But nope, his family matters more than the 500+ people living in this street. I won't be posting out screenshots directly to prove my point since I don't too much trouble, but [here's](https://eleicoes.poder360.com.br/candidato/631495#2016) the mayor's proof of victory in the 2016 election and [here](https://transparencia.cc/dados/cnpj/14706052000192-SC-supermercado-zona-sul-ltda/) is the registration for the supermarket listing showing his daughter as an associate and brother as associate-administrator. I know that posting this on HIVE won't have any effect on local politics, but I'm angry, that's it. And I guess introducing where you live also entails showing the uglier side of things. And this is as ugly as it gets. A mayor that doesn't care anymore and wants his "cosa nostra" to go right, a political seat turned into family business. He still has 2 more years to do things right, and we'll keep pressuring him, if he doesn't change, then I guess I'll have to start writing pieces like these in the local newspapers.

What a intersting story and yes you're absolute right!!! IYC isnt only about showing the best things we love about our Cities, but also about the things who could be better. I guess a lot of people could fill books with articles about how politics dont work the way they're supposed to be. I remember this wonderful entry from the first contest: https://ecency.com/hive-137094/@hlezama/cumanas-seating-accommodations-or-introduce-your-city-community-iyc-contest-1 wich shows also a lot of problems there. Thank you for sharing this with us !LUV

Thank you! Yes, it's a good place to show that despite everywhere's hidden or obvious beauties, there are problems, there are always problems. And this is one that effects me daily. Just taking a look at the street reminds me of what's going on and it's sad that nepotism is above the people on the mayor's head.
