Tonight I visited a traditional market in my area. As usual, the atmosphere was crowded even though it was late at night. Simple light bulbs hung between the weathered wooden frames that supported the roofs of the stalls. But that's where the charm and simplicity are full of color and stories.
In one corner of the market, I found a fruit seller who was very eye-catching. Rows of various tropical fruits such as salak, avocado, mango, papaya, banana, watermelon, and grapes were neatly arranged. What fascinated me was the papaya and mango fruits hung with rattan ropes from the roof of the stall. This is not just a display, but a creative sales strategy so that the fruit is not easily damaged and still looks fresh. The light hanging above it makes the color of the fruit even more striking and tempting.
Behind the pile of fruit, familiar and warm buying and selling activities can be seen. Several buyers are busy choosing fruit, children are playing in the midst of the crowd, and there are also mothers who seem to be bargaining for prices in a unique style that cannot be found in modern supermarkets.
This view is not just about buying and selling, but about life. Markets like this are a meeting place for various community backgrounds. This is where local traditions, cultures, and economies come together. Behind what may seem like a simple appearance, there is the power of the people's economy that continues to move.
I feel lucky to be able to witness and capture this moment. Hopefully traditional markets like this will remain alive and not be crushed by time.
