The game provide various ways to users to earn form this [Play2earn](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-play2earn-gaming) game. Here in Splinterlands the Play2earn does not means that you have to play to earn you have many more ways also to earn which also includes the [rental market](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-rental-market) for cards and same is open for the  [Splintershards](https://leofinance.io/posts/@leoglossary/leoglossary-splintershards-sps)(SPS) delegation also. Holding the SPS in [staking](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-staking) condition also earn the SPS rewards form the SPS staked reward pool. 

Ranked play is one of the major mechanism for earning for the game in the form of the [daily focus](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-daily-focus) chest and the [End-of-Season (EOS)](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-end-of-season-eos) which contains the [Reward Cards](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-reward-card), SPS, [Merits](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-merits), [Booster Packs](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-booster-packs) etc. Form a long time bot  play in the game is major concern and topic of discussion among players in the game. Their is a group of players which are against the bot play in the game and some of them are liking the concept of the bot play.

## Bot Play in Splinterlands

Lets is first understand the bot play in Splinterlands. As the word bot is already gives you a hint it is a automated mechanism that play the game for bot owners. Their ae some players using the cheats to know the opponent game an setup the team accordingly which increase their chance of winning. They used a pre defined set of cards best suitable for particular set of rules for particular league.

The idea of using bots to play Splinterlands is always controversial. For a hardcore players it is cheating. But in the eyes of other how want to grind it is easy way to solve their purpose. It is also a truth that many players in the game using bots to maximizing rewards earning.
 
In recent years, there has been a fundamental shift in the structure of play-to-earn games. Play-to-earn games refer to a gaming model where players actively participating and achieving certain milestones within the game to earn rewards, usually in the form of cryptocurrencies or digital assets.
 
 The addition of new user in the game is very important as they comes with investment in the game a they need some initial investment to play the game and earn rewards. But as players using the bot or running the bot does not means a real new user. But on the other hand the the bot owner still required investment. For example if player setup multiple accounts for running the bot that also means they new accounts will also require the NFT or the game cards to play which required the investment.  Which is actually a positive aspect of the bots and increase the demand for in game assets. If the assets of game increases that means it will benefits to all.

## Splinterlands Action against Bot Play

A proposal [Splinterlands will try to implement anti-bot measures in Modern format#28](https://peakd.com/@theukm/create-a-temporary-ranked-mode-with-anti-bot-measures) was passed in the past. In view of same In the recent Town Hall the Splinterlands team has explained the actions they are preparing to stop the bot game play in modern format. Is it in modern format only, The answer is for the time is - YES, The wild format is still opened for the bots. Their are ore them one reason for implementing it in Modern format only in my opinion, First reason is the new players. The new players mostly plays in the modern format only because of the cheap modern cads availability in market as compare to the wild format. So the team want to gives good game exposer to new real players. Other reason may be the technical difficulties or the team want to see the effect of changes in one format firth. 
 
In the past also some measure were taken for tournament having high value rewards. A manual verification process was used to prevent the entry of the bots.

To be honest I have always a sense that the Splinterland team also do not want to stop the bots completely as they are also a part of the ecosystem and contribute in the tokcnimeic of game. 

As explained in the Town Hall they are going to stop processing battle operations submitted on chain, all the services will go through the API. The past issue of seeing the team at a time when they get summited on the chain will also get resolved. As stated by the team this is prep work for preventing bots from being able to play in the modern unit human only league.
