Make Your Upvote Count: Don't Miss Out On The Money

Haha, I love Steemit! I have laughed so much over the last couple of days of Steemit, at all the fun content you guys share and the funny conversations we have in the chat.

<center>**But this comversation I just had in chat really tickled me and I wanted to share.** &#128518;</center>

After I wrote my post about [How To Make More Money on Your Poats!](https://steemit.com/steemit/@hannahlicious/steemit-how-to-make-more-money-on-your-posts) I went into the SteemitChat to get in the post promotion chatroom to see if I could share my post with some people who might want to read.

Awww man, I will definitely share any tips I have with you guys, but in this case I just had to laugh because **I literally had just sent him all the tips I have: steemitchat, randowhale and minnowsupport** Upvoting a post that has content you would actually be interested in, but not reading it because you're so blinded by getting back to the chatroom to find another opportunity for an upvote.

Just really got me thinking that the only downside to Steemit, is sometimes we upvote blindly, just for an upvote in return, or we want as many upvotes as we can get, without caring whether every single one of those people actually read or were interested in the content.

*On that note*, i'm going to jump out of SteemitChat, and go and live my life in the real world for a little bit, get some food with my husband and give my dog some cuddles. Not worry too much about the upvotes.

I am still confused on something though! I u der stand how more influential steem users can have more weighted up votes, but what I don't understand is the percentage thing. I asked about it in the help chat but didn't really get an answer.. what does it mean when you say, for ex,  when Rando whale gives you a 12% up vote?  What is the percentage attached to the vote?

Yeah it is really confusing... what I THINK but not 100% sure because still my first week here is that it just basically means, let's say hypothetically Randowhale's vote is worth $100 if you get lucky and get the full 50% of his vote you would get $50 extra on your post value... if you get unlucky and you get a 1% vote then you will only get $1 extra on your post payout... 

So essentially you're gambling in a way because you pay 2 steem dollars to get a vote from him... could be worth much more than 2 dollars, or it could be worth less. 

If he were to vote at his full 100% all the time it would drain his voting power quickly, and then his votes would be worth less... and same thing with us, if we vote on too many posts in one day (i think more than 40) it drains your power down, and then you don't make as much from curation rewards. 

Pretty confusing, so much to learn about steemit and I still haven't wrapped my head around it all yet! haha

Okay that does make sense!! But tell me, for example, how does Randowhale choose how much of his vote goes to your post? I think I hear it being called "scaling a vote". Is this an automatic thing or something he can choose to do??
