STEEMIT CLIFFSNOTES FOR NEWBIES

I know this list won’t give you a deep understanding of anything. It’s merely intended to give you some quick tips to follow so you can buy yourself some time to wrap your head around the more complex concepts. If anything is inaccurate, or there is something I should add, please let me know.

Avoid posting more than 4 stories in 24 hours. The value of all the posts drops if you write too many in a day (site wants quality not quantity).

You can edit your posts without it counting as a new post.

You can earn steem if people upvote ANY of your posts (stories or comments). You help others by doing the same for them.

Voting is important (you really should upvote things you genuinely like), you can get paid to do it, but it’s complicated. @liberosist gave me permission to use a post explaining it. Until you have time to read that, don’t vote too many times per day (some suggest limiting them to 20-40 per day) and don’t vote too early (there are penalties for voting in the first 30 minutes).

Wang isn’t real. If you get 10 comments in the 1st 30 seconds of a post… they aren’t real either. (Although it may give you an ego boost to hear “Nice! Great to have you! Welcome! ).

Never lose your password.

Don’t assume female bloggers posts are only popular because of sex appeal. There are really creative people here.

Don’t spam or beg the people with the most steem power. They will find you if you post worthwhile content.

Many people refer to the most powerful steemers as “whales”. I’m not sure if that term is the preferred term of those with a lot of steem power. Is there a more appropriate term?

If you have a question, there are helpful people in steemit.chat #help is the best place to start.

A lot of good people wrote detailed explanations of steemit rules, principles, tools, and tips. Check those out to gain real knowledge.

If you need to know the nuts and bolts of posting check out this post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@hisnameisolllie/steemit-made-really-easy-rt-7mins#@hanshotfirst/re-hisnameisolllie-steemit-made-really-easy-rt-7mins-20160728t150716430z

Here’s @liberosist post on voting: https://steemit.com/steem-help/@liberosist/mind-your-votes-an-investigation-and-guide-to-maximizing-your-curation-rewards
