# The Original Blockchain
These are contracts from Old Assyrian civilization. 
One carefully specifies the guidelines of a silver loan. 
It states that Kukuanum , the man recieving the silver, may invest the precious metal, but must return it immediately when asked. 

Just think this was almost 4000 years ago.

# Hammurabis Code Of Law
The earliest recording of laws we have. 
What's interesting to me is some of the basis of laws were not just, don't kill each other.
## They had incentives aligned.

## Examples of the laws:

229: If a builder builds a house for someone, and does not construct it properly, and the house which he built fall in and kill its owner, then that builder shall be put to death.

232: If it ruins goods, he shall make compensation for all that has been ruined, and inasmuch as he did not construct properly this house which he built and it fell, he shall re-erect the house from his own means.

233: If a builder builds a house for someone, even though he has not yet completed it; if then the walls seem to topple, the builder must make the walls solid from his own means.

# Takeaway: Their laws aimed to align incentives. 
They had very little space (like Twitter) so they had to be concise with laws. 
So it shows that clear incentives were important to the fabric of their society.

I wonder how Hammurabi's laws would have dealt with the bank failures...
