If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to get stuck in the rut of scrolling (or flying) through your feed instead of exploring Steemit for new content gems. Lately I’ve been forced to shake things up. During my usual feed flybys I’ve found myself running into content I already voted on!

I remember when my feed seemed endless. Now, the amount of content being produced (at least from the people I follow) has dropped significantly. And it’s actually kinda nice. Not only can I spread around my vote, I can look for new content too!

If you’re on the lookout for good content, maybe you’ll be interested in trying one, two, or all of these options:

### **1. Join a group, tribe, community, or gathering of people who share similar interests.**

I just joined my first group - @SteemitMamas. Okay, I confess. I’m still loitering on the fringes when it comes to the discord channel, but that’s me in a mid- to large gathering anyway. I usually look for the person by themselves then strike up a conversation. Not so easy to do in a discord chat.

However, I enjoy following the mamas and reading up on their posts about family, life, etc.

### **2. Check out thegoodwhales.io.**

This is the new bot run by OCD (@ocdb). It’s only available to those on the whitelist, so the authors being upvoted have been “preapproved” by the OCD team.

I set Steemify to alert me when someone transfers money to @ocdb (which is the way they place a vote.) When I get the notification, I go over to thegoodwhales.io and follow the link to the upvoted post. So far, I’ve found some pretty good, new gems there.

### **3. Follow @trufflepig for some AI-retrieved content.**

I just discovered @trufflepig. You can read more about its background and what it does [here](https://steemit.com/steemit/@trufflepig/weekly-truffle-updates-2018-48). From what I understand, it looks for content based on different factors including: what payout should be, readability, and topic. I think it’s still growing and learning but I have found a few gems among the many daily truffles the pig retrieves.

*Side note: I would like to see if picks up on past @curie curated authors as that would be a nice boost for a lot of people who were “Curied” and then watched their votes plummet again. I’m also curious if, in penalizing self-votes and bid bots, the pig will also exclude @ocdb whitelisted votes.*

## **What is “good content”?**

I think the answer partially depends on what you like to read and the purpose behind the content. While you could say there are basic guidelines (reader-friendliness, clarity, spelling, accuracy, etc.), there will be “good content” that breaks away from the norm.

And there is plenty of “good content” that I will probably never read because I’m not interested in the topic. I’ve noticed that some curation trails focus heavily on other languages, art, innovation (@C-squared, for example) and others seem to scoop up whatever minnow comes up in the net - placing the value of the content on the author’s standing in Steemit and their consistency in posting. This last method may not always showcase enjoyable content to read, but it does encourage activity on the blockchain and that in its own way is “good content.”

**That being said, when I go looking for good content, I’m mostly interested in finding “real” people writing about “real” things.**

Yes, I love to see people’s creativity and can spend hours going through the photography tags. I’m also encouraged by other Steemians’ dedication to post regularly about anything and everything. But it’s always refreshing to find those gems on the blockchain that make me think, “Now there’s good content!”
