Today I was looking at some photos from when I was a child and some of them made me laugh, but they also made me think a little bit.

I was a girl who for my classmates was the least graceful or the "ugly one in the class" because I was chubby, curly and dark. And at that time I loved dressing up as a queen, as a princess, and being a little diva, but I was also a bit embarrassed because I didn't want to be made fun of. I still enjoyed my costumes and my moment.

That leads me to think, perhaps a little narcissistically, that I was destined to be a queen, a model, or whatever you want to call it. Because I look at those pictures and it's inevitable not to wonder.... Who would think that at 23 I would ever feel pretty enough to put on makeup and pose for cool pictures? Who would think that I would ever participate in a beauty pageant like Hive's Top Model?

Part of me believes that when we're kids we have a vague idea of what we want to be when we grow up, but as we get older those dreams get trampled on by others if we don't have enough support or motivation from our family. I mean, some people can be really negative when they criticise a child.

I remember when I was little a lot of adults used to tell me to stop eating because I was too fat, that no one would love me. That when I liked a boy, he wouldn't pay attention to me because of my weight.... That my feet were too big for a girl, and so on and so forth.

It's very easy for a child to lose his self-confidence with comments like that from adults who are supposed to be wiser and have the duty to guide.

*And this is my message: Let's be that support and motivation that children need to be strong children, confident children, and happy children. Enough of criticising a child or putting ideas in their head that they shouldn't even care about. Especially, let's avoid general conflicts in their relationship with food. Fortunately I never stopped eating the way they told me to, but I did have a lot of self-esteem problems when I was so young. I don't want history to repeat itself.*






>Hoy estuve viendo algunas fotos de cuando era una niña y me causaron gracia, pero también me hicieron pensar un poquito.

>Yo era una niña que para mis compañeros de clase era la menos agraciada o la "fea del salón" por ser gordita, rizada y morena. Y en ese momento  amaba disfrazarme como reina, como princesa, y ser una pequeña diva, pero también me daba un poco de vergüenza porque no quería que se burlaban de mí. Aún así disfrutaba mis disfraces y mi momento. 

 

>Eso me lleva a pensar, quizá de forma un poco narcisista que estaba destinada a ser una reina, una modelo, o como le quieran decir. Porque veo esas fotos y es inevitable no preguntarme... ¿Quién diría que a mis 23 volvería a sentirme tan linda de nuevo para maquillarme y posar para tomarme fotos geniales? ¿Quién diría que participaría en un concurso de belleza como lo fue el Hive's Top Model?

>Una parte de mi cree que cuando somos niños tenemos una ligera idea de lo que queremos ser de  grandes pero a medida que vamos creciendo esos sueños van siendo pisoteados por los demás si no tenemos el apoyo o motivación suficiente de parte de nuestra familia. Quiero decir, hay personas que pueden ser realmente negativas al criticar a un niño.

>Recuerdo que cuando estaba pequeña muchos adultos me decían que dejara de comer porque estaba muy gorda, que luego nadie me iba a querer. Que cuando me gustara un niño, él no me iba a prestar atención por mi peso... Que tenia los pies muy grandes para ser una niña, y pare de contar.

>Es muy fácil para un niño perder su confianza en él mismo con comentarios así de gente adulta que se supone que son más sabios y tienen el deber de guiar.

>*Y este es mi mensaje: Seamos ese apoyo y motivación que los niños necesitan para ser niños fuertes, niños seguros, y niños felices. Ya basta de criticar a un niño o meterle ideas a la cabeza que ni deberían importarles a ellos. Especialmente, evitemos generales conflictos en su relación con la comida. Afortunadamente yo nunca dejé de comer como ellos me decían, pero si tuve muchos problemas de autoestima siendo tan pequeña. No quiero que se repita la historia.*
