The purpose of art is to create beauty, for no other reason than the enjoyment of that beauty. The same way consuming a mood altering substance will give you a positive emotions without the work necessary to accomplish the purpose, that is being naturally rewarded and reinforced by that positive emotions.
Art is really just a form of distraction, or at best a catharsis, it is like the emotional throw up bucket of our culture. Where all the taboo's and suppressed emotions are being exposed in an entertaining and symbolic way so it won't bother anybody.
It creates the illusion that you are addressing your problems, without actually doing anything about them, like a form of masturbation for problem solving. It pretty much replaced religion, as the official purpose of religion was to inform people about corruption and prevent them from becoming corrupted.
But instead it just delivered a bunch of rituals and superstitions, that only create the illusion that you are addressing the issue of corruption. As far as I can observe priests are some of the most corrupted people in society, there is no way they could prevent anybody from becoming corrupted.
We are using art especially movies in the same way, if you look at some of the most popular movies and novels today, they are on the theme of corruption like: "Game of thrones", "Lord of the rings", "The hunger games", "The matrix", "Harry Potter" even the zombie franchise and I could probably continue until tomorrow with examples.
Church was replaced by the cinema or concerts, people don't go to the church to receive their periodic dose of distraction, they go to watch movies and concerts. The priest were replaced by musicians or actors, the bible by the script or the novel etc.
We are literally obsessed with other people stories about dealing with corruption and overcoming corruption, because we are having similar problems as they do. This is why you are able to relate to the characters and get captivated by the story, it is an attempt to gain wisdom, to understand what works and what doesn't in order to apply it to your life.
The sad thing is that you are trying to figure out the truth out of fiction, there are some seeds of truth in there, but for the most part is just made up B.S. that will offer you no value.
The purpose of mythology is to confuse people, to offer an alternative fake narrative to reality, to confuse and corrupt. While simultaneously it is camouflaged as wisdom or righteousness.
There is no good art the same there is no good recreational drug, you could do it in such a small quantity that it won't make a difference or maybe promote good values in movies. But at the end of the day it is still a form of distraction.
