First it was the young Dutch striker Brian Brobbey who is being picked up at Ajax, and now it is the great French defensive talent Mohamed Simakan who is on his way to RB Leipzig. It was announced on the Bundesliga club's website on Monday afternoon.

> Mohamed Simakan is a robust, dynamic and flexible defender who can play in the middle and on the back. As a 20-year-old, Mohamed is still young and able to develop. However, he has already gained first team experience in Strasbourg for two seasons, where he has also played in the Europa League. We are happy that he has chosen us, even though there were many others who were interested, says RB Leipzig's sports director, Markus Krosche, on the club's website.

The Red Bull clubs have always been known for bringing young and talented players around the world and developing them to European top level. The latest proof of this is also a French defender, which Mohamed Simakan recalls in both stature and playing style; Dayot Upamecano. He came as a 16-year-old to RB Salzburg in Austria, and as an 18-year-old he moved on to RB Leipzig, where he has become such a big player that Bayern Munich have secured the now 22-year-old defensive rock from next season. Mohamed Simakan will thus be a direct heir to his compatriot in Yussuf Poulsen's German club.

20-year-old Mohamed Simakan has played 38 matches in Ligue 1 for Strasbourg over the past two seasons.
