29 Days Until Bloomer - What Would I Have Done Differently?

When you reach the end of a large creative project, there are as many questions as answers.

You think back through the zillions of hours of work and wonder how it could have been different. Maybe a certain song needed more practice, or you should’ve worked with a different producer/band/songwriter…

Maybe you should’ve played more shows to tighten up the material. Maybe you should have played <b>less</b> shows with the material so it would be more fresh.

There are few definite answers. Just questions and ideas.

<h3>What Would I Have Done Differently?</h3>

Overall I am absurdly happy with the final product of my upcoming EP. I think the production quality is awesome and that my personality shines through the whole thing. It’s a style that defies any one genre, touching on everything from lo-fi beat tapes to hectic math rock.

The main criticism I have of myself is that the record is <b>short</b>. It’s 12 minutes long - seven songs, mind you, but only 12 minutes of total runtime. 

If I could change one thing, I’d get it about twice as long. But I don’t think that was ever possible - I worked my ass off for the better part of a year to finish this, and I had to cut a LOT of songs towards the end because they weren’t good enough.

I’d rather have a short, awesome record, than a longer and less consistent one. So, that’s cool! Next time I’m hoping to achieve a longer runtime.

Good work man, looking forward to giving it a listen. 

Also, short and thick does the trick, or so they say. My current favorite EP is only 5 tracks and 13 minutes, and I've listened to great full length albums that run less than 20 minutes.

Well that leads to the question, what defines an album? But, yeah, grindcore and punk have some fairly short albums. It's funny, Trash Talk released EPs that were longer than their first album.

Speaking of music release formats, you should release a single from the EP with a remix or two and/or one of the songs that didn't make the cut as a B-side, haha.
