Apple's ad withdraw from Twitter has less to do with not supporting free speech and more with disagreeing with how Elon is destroying the company by firing everyone, refusing to listen to the experts in the company (and firing them when they try to explain things to him), and generally being a huge asshole. Remember, before he started all this Apple was the largest advertiser on Twitter. 

If Elon was actually a decent manager he would pick up the phone and call Apple to negotiate things instead of attacking them over Twitter. 

Apple has many problems, not the least of which is doing what the Chinese government demands far too often (though in fairness to their side, if they didn't then China would kick them out, so there is no wiggle room), but pulling ads from Twitter isn't one of their problems. 

I actually want Twitter to succeed. I'm a promoter of free speech and will love to see all platform encouraging freedom of speech. 
Unfortunately, the way Elon is going about it is wrong and he will never achieve true freedom of speech. 
Elon should take a clue from Hive, better still bring Twitter on hive and see how smoothly he will achieve this. 

Having said that, Apple has clearly shown their hate for free speech and will do anything to make sure they frustrate every attempt of freedom. So, with the way Twitter is going about it, they might not survive it. 

Twitter certainly has a future and will continue to operate in the closed manner that it does now.

But when you approach the question from [the future of social media](https://leofinance.io/@forexbrokr/the-future-of-social-media-blockchain-and-web3-dapps-on-hive) as a whole, I can certainly envision a parallel running ecosystem of decentralised social apps.

Free, open and censoship-resistant for all - No ifs, no buts.

As long as the network hosting the dApps is truly decentralised - like say the Hive blockchain and network - then you will be able to achieve these basic goals that will ultimately form the pillar of future social media networks.

Totalitarianism can't win long term.

And Hive based social media dApps are going to play a major role in ensuring this is the case.

I want to see Free Speech succeed everywhere. But Twitter has a long history of controlling speech the operators of it dont like. It's is also a massive company that requires a massive amount ofpeople to operate it along with a massive amount of capital to continue operating. I think they are on the right track with regards of Free Speech. But they will continue to have problems weeding out the ones who used to be in charge. Also some major finacial issues are gonna happen due to perceived social pressure from advertisers. 
They would be smart to intergrate something like Hive into Twitter to help alleviate those pressures. They should NOT do something like ETH or DOGE. I honestly dont care what they use but it HAS to be decentralized and NOT backed by a bunch of VC money. Otherwise the US government will easily take it down.
