Could ETC be to Ether, what the DARK WEB is to the Internet? ETC $40m in Traded Volume Today!!

Could ETC become an anything goes, governance free network where developers can build application free or any centralised governance or consensus intervention..

This is a question to the community...

I'm not particularly technical when it comes to Cryptocurrency, although I have been a user for the past 3 years and understand the in's and out's of what is going on. I can see the reason that ETC (Ethereum Classic) has come into existence, the 'Hard Fork' was against the spirit of the Ethereum Network, and to call it (ETC) a scam is wrong. Overvalued on the other hand is a completely different matter..

I have been however, struggling with who would use Ethereum Classic, when all the Dev's are working on Ethereum. Would application builders want to operate on a network where, no mean's exist to put right a perceived injustice? Or maybe without the light governing hand of the Ethereum Foundation and General Consensus, maybe Ethereum Classic stays truer to the mantra set out by Vitalik Buterin for Ethereum...

I was against the 'Hard Fork' even though I was a DAO holder. I see the rise (although, very early days thus far) of ETC as the cost to the Ethereum Foundation intervening in a situation that technically, they shouldn't have. I would accept that, I can see the other side of the argument, and I am happy a lot of new crypto holders (which there were in the DAO) didn't lose everything on their first investment, and in the long term Blockchain technology could certainly benefit for this.

My question to the community is,

# Could Ethereum Classic become likened to the Dark Web?
## An anything goes, governance free network where developers can build application free or any centralised governance or consensus intervention.

It feels somewhat similar in nature to the relationship between the dark web and the internet. But I would stress, this is just a thought, and I am more than happy to get an education why I am wrong...

As a currency, the darkweb already has bitcoin.  And its already governance free.
Now granted, ive never really understood the appeal of ETH in the first place.   Every time someone tries to explain it to me the conversation goes like this
&quot;hey, you know ETH is better than BTC because with ETH you can X&quot; and X is something that i can't imagine me or anyone ive met ever wanting or needing to do.

The thing about the dark web (and a big part of my business is based on connections made there) is that, for the most part, its impossible to trust anyone.

So if you (or whoever) has this mathematically controlled application or whatever that has some sort of useful functionality, the fact is youre simply not going to be able to get anyone to trust that its legit.  On the dark web they like the simplicity of bitcoin... people look at anything more complicated as a scam.

Interesting perspective. Thanks for posting. This complication (caused by The DAO) is not helping Ethereum in it's entirety. 

The interesting thing will be, which way will the trust go between ETC and ETH. This will decide which side (if any) win's out for sure...

@steemuwe At the very least, that would be a good thing to happen. I learnt a lot going through the DAO tubercle... ETC up 340% on the day, Ether down 10%. Very interesting situation...

I don't think it is a fair comparison.  There is nothing &quot;Dark&quot;, hidden or illicit about ETC.  It is just as legitimate as ETH, indeed more so for those who opposed the fork.

I was comparing ETC and ETH's relationship, to the DarkWeb and the Internets relationship. Not ETC to the DarkWeb. And also, one man's Dark, Hidden, Illicit, is another man's free, open, un-governed. 

This was not meant to be an attack on ETC. The Dark web for many people, is how the internet should be, I believe this to be the same in ETC's case

Will it ever get the adoption required to be a legitamate threat to ETH? Only time will tell..
