Whale Votes & Voting Pattern - Follow up.
Yesterday I wrote a post about steemit votes & voting patterns..
[Steemit Votes and voting patterns - The reason for less payouts? - A fantastic change?](https://steemit.com/steemit/@hitmeasap/steemit-votes-and-voting-patterns-the-reason-for-less-payouts-a-fantastic-change)

## Today, I'll share something else..
I still believe in steemit and I still stand for the things I've said previously..

However, @razvanelulmarin shared his thoughts in my previous post..

**He wrote this:**

> **The reason for that would be IF we did notice that whales VP is at 70% or smth.**
with a few notable exception whales VP is always at over 95%. Mine is at 65% for comparation. I haven't seen 80% vp in weeks. that's what curating like crazy looks like.

- Make sure you read my previous post so you get a better understand of what he comments on.

### Because of this..
I figured that I just had to try to get a better understanding of this entire thing myself, so I did some more "research"..

**Take a look at this introduction post:**
[This looks like fun. Please allow me to introduce myselfโ€ฆ](https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@davehitt/this-looks-like-fun-please-allow-me-to-introduce-myself)

**And take a look at this:**
https://i.imgsafe.org/212fabb777.png

I don't know if the reason for this post not being upvoted like crazy (as we've seen many times before) are due to the non-existing "steemit verification" photo or something else..

https://i.imgsafe.org/212fa98bd0.png

However, this introduction have been upvoted by 2 of the biggest whales.. Ned & Dantheman. I suppose you know who they are by now?

With upvotes from these whales any post would have had a **BIG** pending payout.. But not this one. Not this time.

### I still believe it's a good thing that the whales are upvoting content using less of their powers..

That would be an amazing thing to do, if they upvoted **more** content, so **more** authors could get rewarded.

I stated that in my previous post too, and I say it again. I still believe that. And I hope that's the actual reason for the whales to do something like this..

- But, this is starting to look ridiculous.

To do such things, with voting power like this:

https://i.imgsafe.org/212faf05e1.png
(Ned's current voting power)
---

### That got me thinking..

- Is this the new standard of "whale-voting"..?

I'm satisfied with the whole experience I've had on steemit so far.. And even though I got amazed the enormous amounts of money some of the posts earned.. I've never had any doubts of steemit being real or not.

I still believe it's the real deal. I still believe in steemit.. But what I've showed you above.. looks awkward.

2 of the biggest whales upvotes something and it has a pending upvote of $15..

---

I would love to see **more** whales upvoting **more** posts, using less of their powers. Instead of using 100% they could use 50% and **double** the amount of upvotes each day..

That would be **AMAZING**.. But to see whales handing out upvotes with 4% of their powers.. When they have more than 99% left.. That feels.. **Wrong.**

---

Also note that I have **no idea** or insight at all on this, so the reason for something like this could be literally **anything**. This is strictly based on this little information I've shared with you in this post.

**And based on that.. This feels bad.**

---

### I would LOVE to hear some details regarding this.

- I noticed **several** whales upvoting content with less of their powers which is a **good** thing, and I appreciate that.. But what's up with the 4% upvotes? -**Is this a new trend in whale-upvotes?**

The same amount of money is being divided. It doesn't really matter if they don't use much of their voting power.

Well. For an introduce yourself post.... That's great. I still agree with a post from awhile back that they shouldn't really be a section with high payout, but more a verification.
As for other areas. I have thought they need to step back a bit.... But hopefully that doesn't mean absent.

I've just written this article concerning a flaw (as I see it) in the voting system and the solution I found. I'd be happy if you could read it and give me a feedback ;)

The people with a lot of steem power have a tool that let them choose whether they want to vote with the full voting power they have in that moment or with less. It's a toggle bar....i am sorry i can't find the post that covered this. I'll edit later if i find it.

EDIT: I did not find the one i was searching for how ever i found the other way to change the voting power for those who have enough to make a difference.

I did, and the user appeared to be wondering why this was happening now. @royaltiffany provided the answer to that, a new feature available to large whales. Perhaps there is a language barrier here but that was my impression from this:

Cli-wallet had ability to give votes with partial power before.
Recently there was new functionality that added just that feature on steemit, but just for high SP individuals.
It is getting used now.

@sykochica ·
I'm on the same page with you here. It makes sense for the whales that actively curate things to use smaller percentages so they can spread it out across a larger set of posts, but why be 'stingy' when voting power is so high (low post curation.)

I can understand the low percentage towards an introduce yourself post though, since I had seen it stated before that the rewards should come in later posts, after establishing themselves a bit more on the site.

I ultimately just take the view that whales are going to do what they do, whether I understand it or not. There's a lot of time, effort and/or money they've put in to getting that much steem power, so I see it as their prerogative.

Just my take.

Yes there is a voting slider if you have sufficient SP to require it. It allows you to adjust your payout just like the CLI wallet has allowed for some time.

Another way to look at things is that if the whales vote less that means greater rewards for the whole pool of people voting. In essence it means better distribution of the money.

I could only imagine having a high percentage of my voting power. I barely ever get above 30% because there is too much great content.
