She let a part of her spoil recklessly, corrupt, while another part of her dried and rotted in helpless bitterness.
Her reckless self flashed opulence and sheer optimism, while a growing nihilist self dreamed of burning streets and fried heads.
“Careful what you wish for,” they say.

Time passed and selves switched. Her spoiled and corrupt self lost control, self-perception, power.
Her helpless self gained control and power, at the expense of self-perception.
“War is peace,” Orwell wrote. 
Nothing is what it seems any more. The freedom-hungry self became the oppressor and the blues it promised to uplift not only fell deeper down despair hole, but grew darker.
She went to war with herself this country of mine, and we are all losing it.
