Sonnet 12  I am not sure if they came with the rain; maybe it was the rain that came with them. The fact is that we got them both in chain And this one I caught eating leaves and stem.  Grasshoppers mixed images can invoke. They announce good luck or prosperity. But in swarm, farming chaos they provoke. Luckily, swarms are here a rarity.  But rarer is this odd ancient creature With antennae-shaped nose outside its head, Hears through its belly said my teacher, And their whole body casing they can shed.  Looks like 3-D printing, but it’s molting Now we know who had been the leaves jolting. ### II  The new adult may have allured this lass. Females tend to be bigger than the males. Males play their body instruments like brass Legs rubbing wings, freeing their mating sails.  It’s good for the sake of innocent ears They don’t mate as much as they jump or eat. It’d bring any human couple to tears And wake up every neighbor in the street.  We enjoyed the visit of the odd pair They don’t live long or come over often How cool if our skin we took off to wear Purely new skin; no need for a coffin.
