I get the feeling I'm going to clock up some serious hours in Darkest Dungeon 2. While it is a completely different game when compared to the original, there are many features that are the same. 

The impending sense of doom remains. 

The combat system is pretty much the same. 

The death of your characters is permanent for your run, but it inherits some slay the spire type mechanics, you get some cool items along the way, and there's even more depth in terms of the character development, story; and the journey along the way. 

I'm sure there's going to be bad and even worse things that will happen to my merry band of miserable adventurers, and I can't wait to see them suffer, and I can't wait to suffer with them.
