Darkest Dungeon 2 - Part 3 of the first time 'round - do I need to read some guides?

The more I play Darkest Dungeon 2, the more I appreciate it as a Darkest Dungeon "adjacent" game, as opposed to a direct sequel. 

Its implementation of mechanics that are similar to the branching paths of Slay the Spire make the game a little more transparent in the way in which it is going to destroy you. 

It feels more like a journey, and could have probably had any other name and been a separate game. 

Still, it has the very same essences, and I'm still learning how to play most effectively.
