holoz0r attempts to build a witness node part 2
Mira, Mira, on the wall, what is the slowest blockchain replay of them all?

Mine is. 

At least, that is my experience with the latest, packaged version of steemd, which does not yet have Mira integrated. 

Mira is a befuddling piece of code that increases the efficiency and scalability of the Steem blockchain, reducing the need for huge amounts of memory. 

Instead, you can use huge amounts of disk space, or balance the results as required, as alluded to in steemitblog's latest updates. 

That means, that currently, with the box that I have, it is impossible for me to replay the blockchain in any reasonable period of time. 

That means, that for the time being, I have to wait a bit longer in order to have a witness node of my own, sitting on my very desk. 

At least I managed to conquer the following steps:

- Installation of an Ubuntu environment
- Compile the steemd client, and all its dependencies 
- Learn about undocumented "features" of Steem

Find numerous gaps in the existing guides, official documentation, and more, which could only be filled by combining multiple sources. Don't ask me to list them - I didn't keep track as I was going. 

Getting a witness node up and run is hard. Much harder than probably maintaining one is. 

Why can't it be like mining doge coin? 

Hopefully it will be at some point in the future. 

At the moment, I've hit a brick wall, and will have to wait longer before I can have my own little witness box frolicking around the blockchain.
