<em>Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World</em> was an expansion pack released - and missed by myself, and many others. When The Dungeon Siege collection landed on steam, it was an instant buy for me, but like many, I was disappointed that the expansion was not included.<br/>

Modders fixed that. There's an <a href="https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1165078098">excellent guide</a> on the Steam Community forums that instruct new users and those who have not devoted their entire life to the <em>Dungeon Siege</em> franchise how to get it working. 

Once you've done a registry patch, extracted a few files, replaced an executable, and then used the "All Saves" mod to move your existing save files, you're away. Just be careful of using the "vision hack" that the All Saves mod enables as an option 

The <em>Broken World</em> functionality introduces itself in the standalone Dungeon Siege 2 vanilla campaign, in which it adds some additional class specialisations, some new spells and skills, and generally allows your characters to become even more powerful than they otherwise could do in just the standard game. 

Like most game expansion sets of this period, it also included a bounty of additional story. There's no real engine improvements or material changes to the gameplay- it is an incremental patch - at best- and the sort of free content that games like <em>Diablo 3</em> would see on a regular basis. 

It is still <em>Dungeon Siege 2</em> - which still, makes it magnificent, but for the sticker price at the time - it woulnd't have been worth it - for the sticker price of "free", which is through the mod / missing files patches in the above linked guide - it makes it worth your time for the extra time and affection you'll get out of the <em>Dungeon Siege</em> franchise. 

I've been nervous about starting the third title in the series - due to its marked change of direction and poor reception in the media at the time of its release - still - it is a game I hope to approach with a fresh set of eyes, and bereft of expectation. 

You see - every Dungeon Siege game is simple in its premise. Pick up a weapon - hit things with it until they die. Pick up what they drop, collect your experience points, and become a powerful combatant in a world full of hostile creatures, intrigue, and some basic environmental puzzles. 

The sort of thing that I relish in after a day of work - which is what gaming should be about.
