 DNA testing, Genocide and 23andMe. When I first saw popular Youtubers advertising getting their DNA tested by 23andMe, it raised a red flag. I’ve heard people say that putting Biometric, or Genetic Data on the blockchain could lead to the next genocide. Voluntarily giving your DNA to a company who’s partnered with a Drug company is a bad idea. Knowing this information has made me wary of allowing any organization to get and hold my DNA. I’ve especially been careful with my kids. The hospitals take your cord blood at the birth of your child. Without your consent. In fact, you have to deny it, cause if you don’t, they will take it. At the birth of my daughter, I chose to deny our cord blood. The hospital sent in multiple people to harass us. They want it, and they will tell you that it might help cure childhood illnesses in the future. Well there’s that, and there’s genocide. Photo Credit: zimbabwe-today.com The company 23andMe, has signed a 300 million dollar deal with the drug company GlaxoSmithKline, and they plan to use this info to determine if you are a right match for clinical drug trials. Is anyone else freaking out? Do you realize what this means? You are the next generation of test subjects, in the livestock management program. Welcome! At four o’clock in the morning, when I had already been through an attempted home birth, the hospital staff continuously hassled me. Like I would have denied them taking our cord blood without previous education. They are relentless. In the end, they gave me a vial of the cord blood. I’m not sure if this was the only vial. Maybe they did this to make me believe they only took one. Usually when blood is drawn multiple vials are taken. The hospital gives you forms to sign that allow them to share your medical information with multiple health related organizations. I denied signing these forms twice, if you don't sign them in the beginning, they send in a second person later. A much weirder experience with my son happened. While cleaning out the bassinet at the hospital I found a vial of his cord blood in the bottom. I never had the cord blood conversation, as I wasn’t as aware three years prior. I had denied vaccinations and other things. Someone at the hospital had to have put it there for me. Weird right? That wasn’t the only experience I had where staff helped me out, but that story is for another article. While there may be health benefits of having your blood drawn, I do not believe they will come from 23andMe. Especially any company that has partnered with a drug company. Companies like Ancestry, and Helix are also playing a role here, and we should all pay attention. It is important that your essence, your life, and your DNA remain private. Lastly I should mention hackers, because just like any website or database, these things can be hacked. I sure don’t want my DNA in the wrong hands, nor do I want this information to affect later generations. I think about the future and the health of our bodies and Mother Earth, daily. It might even be possible that we’d live 500-800 years if we weren't fed a genetically engineered environment since birth. I’m not about to put the next generation in a cage before they even get here. I hope you think twice about this too.
