When we talk to an unfamiliar person on the phone, or listen to them on the radio, sometimes we instinctively create a picture in our minds of what that person might look like. However, it's usually hazy and indistinct, and our impressions may prove unfounded.

In another example of the uncanny abilities of artificial intuition, this machine learning model can predict skin tone, age, and facial features simply by listening to a recording of that person speaking.

Ethnic and sex hormone cues may be inferred from the timbre of the voice, and health and age from the vibrato. Subtle differences in accent may enable one to infer the geography of their path of life. 

Put it all together with the right blend of probabilities, and once again, machines have put us in direct connection with the ineffable.
