Learning to take your own advice

                                }

...is apparently the hardest thing in the world. Well, among the hardest, anyway.

I have a bad habit of overthinking things, situations, people, phrases, and pretty much everything else you can think about. And obviously that doesn't always land me in the best situations, because it consumes a lot of mental effort on my part. And... well, that's not doing anyone any favors, is it?

And as I was going along my merry way earlier, overthinking, something dawned on me. That I knew the answer already. I'd spoken it only minutes before, while talking to a friend. Funny, isn't it, how easy it is to see the answer in someone else's case, but not ours?

I realized that the suggestion I'd given her, albeit on a different problem, could easily apply to my own. Not only did it have the possibility of working, it was actually largely the best solution, in my case, as well. So then, why did it take me such a long time to figure it out? It took me all of five minutes to give my friend said suggestion.

Yet when it came to my own mind, I found things infinitely more muddled. Because inside your own head, there's always the inviting possibility of "yes, but...", whereas in conversation, there's only so many times you can go back over an argument before it grows tedious and repetitive.

So with that in mind, I decided to make an effort to stop overthinking, and just take my own advice. Sounds easy, don't it? Spoiler alert... it's not. But I'm gonna try it anyway.

Are you good at taking your own advice, or is that something you also struggle with? Are you an overthinker, and if so, how do you cope? If not, again how do you cope?

Yes. Most of the time I don't😜 I guess I imagine various outcomes of doing/ saying something or not doing/ saying that. after some time I think about something else. I once again overcomplicate that thing. and so the cycle repeats itself. this might not be ideal but I think that at the same time it makes life an interesting never ending puzzle. Like I said in the past I like puzzles. So maybe I can't complain?😜

Yeah, but these puzzles eventually lead to over-complicated situations, and quite often risk ruining a situation for no good reason... in my experience, at least. So maybe from that point of view, keeping things simple is sometimes the best option?

that is probably true. But like you said changing who we are and losing that habit of overthinking is not easy.
