Los lunes son los días que concurro al microcentro de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, el único día en que mi trabajo es presencial, el resto del tiempo laboral llevo adelante mis tareas desde la comodidad de mi hogar.

Hablando de centro, o microcentro es un término que puede confundir a las personas que no conocen la historia de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, como llamarle "centro" a una zona ubicada casi a orillas del Río de la Plata, muy lejos del verdadero centro geográfico de esta enorme ciudad. El término se usa desde la época de la colonia cuando era un pequeño enclave comunitario, pujante y trabajador alrededor del puerto que servía de entrada y salida del comercio y las comunicaciones con Europa principalmente; en aquella época esta zona era efectivamente el centro de la ciudad, por ubicación y también por su actividad comercial, administrativa y financiera.

El asunto principal de esta historia se basa es mi gusto por la lectura, cuando llega la hora del almuerzo suelo salir con mi eventual libro y buscar algún lugar tranquilo donde olvidar por un rato los quehaceres laborales y enfrascarme en la lectura de algo interesante. 

Dado que prácticamente he pasado toda mi vida laboral en este sector de la ciudad, conozco algunos lugares que mantienen esa característica primordial que busco: tranquilidad y algo de naturaleza con bancos para sentarse cómodamente y leer por fuera de los ruidos y el tránsito endemoniado de la gran urbe.

Sin dudarlo me dirigí al convento de San Ramón Nonato, un lugar que puede pasar desapercibido para todo aquel que no conoce la zona, su pequeña entrada dispuesta en medio de un paredón blanco no augura el enorme y bello parque interno que rodea las instalaciones del convento.

Lo conozco desde mis inicios como novel empleado del Banco Central, entidad que rige a todas las entidades financieras del país y cuyo edificio y entrada principal se encuentra justo frente al convento; en este preciso lugar estudiábamos todas las tardes luego de los cursos presenciales que hacíamos en la escuela de capacitación de la empresa IBM, el banco tenía un convenio donde se aseguraba las aulas para que nosotros iniciáramos nuestro arduo camino entre los bytes y los bits.

Con la modernidad, también el convento ha trastocado esa seriedad innata de los claustros católicos y ha permitido la instalación de varios restaurantes que aprovechando lo hermoso y relajante del paisaje interno han colocado gran cantidad de mesas bajo las galerías frescas y reparadas, ideal para almorzar en los tórridos veranos de la ciudad.

Me sorprendió ver la poca cantidad de gente sentada en las mesas disfrutando de una buena cocina y el entorno relajante, inmediatamente pensé en la mala situación económica que estamos atravesando y justifiqué la ausencia. Llevaba bastante tiempo sin visitar el lugar, lo recordaba pletórico de comensales disfrutando de una buena cocina en un recreo de sus obligaciones.

Vi las altas palmeras, los caminos de grava y los asientos casi completamente vacíos, me senté en el primero que observé limpio y comencé a leer. No pasaron más de un par de minutos para comprender el verdadero motivo del porqué de tanta soledad: mosquitos.

El calor y la humedad que no dignan retirarse pese al avance del calendario que indica el comienzo del otoño y las grandes lluvias de las últimas semanas han potenciado aún más, si eso es posible, la invasión de mosquitos. El peligro de la enfermedad del dengue, grave, por cierto, es una enorme preocupación para toda la población que ha agotado las existencias de repelentes, espirales insecticidas, citronela y toda suerte de elemento químico que sirvan para alejar de nuestro cuerpo a esos dípteros de tamaño minúsculo pero cuya picadura, especialmente el de la variedad Aedes aegypti pueden provocar trastornos en la salud que incluyen fiebre, dolor de cabeza, dolor muscular y de articulaciones y cuyas complicaciones pueden incluso provocar la muerte de las personas.

La explicación a la escasa presencia humana estaba a la vista y yo no me di cuenta hasta que un par de esos pequeños insectos se posaron en mis manos, estaban por todas partes y alertado del peligro decidí cerrar mi libro y retirarme raudamente.

I have known him since my beginnings as a new employee of the Central Bank, an entity that governs all the financial entities in the country and whose building and main entrance are located right in front of the convent; In this precise place we studied every afternoon after the in-person courses we took at the IBM company training school, the bank had an agreement where the classrooms were secured so that we could begin our arduous path between bytes and bits.

With modernity, the convent has also disrupted the innate seriousness of the Catholic cloisters and has allowed the installation of several restaurants that, taking advantage of the beautiful and relaxing internal landscape, have placed a large number of tables under the fresh and repaired galleries, ideal for lunch in the city's torrid summers.

I was surprised to see the small number of people sitting at the tables enjoying good cuisine and the relaxing environment, I immediately thought about the bad economic situation we were going through and justified the absence. He had not visited the place for a long time, and he remembered it being full of diners enjoying good cuisine during a break from their obligations.

I saw the tall palm trees, the gravel paths, and the almost empty seats, I sat down on the first one that I saw clean and began to read. It didn't take more than a couple of minutes to understand the reason for so much loneliness: mosquitoes.

The heat and humidity that do not deign to retreat despite the advance of the calendar that indicates the beginning of autumn and the heavy rains of recent weeks have further enhanced, if that is possible, the invasion of mosquitoes. The danger of the dengue disease, serious, by the way, is an enormous concern for the entire population that has exhausted the stocks of repellents, insecticidal coils, citronella, and all kinds of chemical elements that serve to keep these dipterans from our body. tiny size but whose bite, especially that of the Aedes aegypti variety, can cause health disorders that include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and whose complications can even cause death in people.

The explanation for the scarce human presence was clear and I didn't realize it until a couple of those small insects landed on my hands. They were everywhere and, alerted to the danger, I decided to close my book and quickly leave.

Defeated, I had to do what I didn't want to do, go to a coffee shop and pay what it isn't worth for a huge container with a dark brew, thinner than water, to dedicate a few minutes to reading, of course, in safety. of mosquitoes.
