I love history, I am passionate about reading about the deeds of ordinary people, like me or like many others, who without intending to shape the world as it is now. People with defects and virtues, with ambitions, with needs, with or without gifts.
That is why museums cause me a particular attraction, also walks and guided tours of castles, mansions or hotels of great antiquity, whether they are in use, kept only for visits or abandoned. There are always guides or people who know the stories that took place there, they are always intriguing and mysterious.
For this reason, on one of my vacation trips to the province of Córdoba, I visited with my wife the Edén hotel, a building more than a century old that was abandoned for many years but for some years and with few resources. It is restoring, not to go back to what it was, just so that the occasional tourist who visits the area can get to know it and through its walls, machines, lounges and rooms rebuild how it was lived and cared for in those years of the early twentieth century.
Additionally, there are the myths and legends that make it even more interesting.
This old hotel has a couple of stories that make it very attractive; It is part of the legend of Hitler's flight and stay in our country, something never proven but not totally discarded either.
According to the story, the hotel was built by a former German officer at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the next century it was sold to two brothers, also of German origin, rich and influential people with the last name Eichhorn; Due to a large investment of money, it became a vacation reference for wealthy families in Argentina and its fame transcended borders, presidents, dukes, princes and even renowned art personalities such as Toscanini and Rubén Darío passed through its luxurious rooms.
The hotel owners sympathized with the ideas of the future Führer from a young age and it is said that they were important contributors and financial support for his campaign for access to power, after the fall of Germany in WWII the hotel was seized but only for two years, it was quickly returned to its owners and the legend was born that it served for a large gathering of fugitive former Nazi chiefs, including Hitler who had secretly arrived in the country in a submarine shortly before.
Towards the end of the 1950s, the hotel was abandoned and vandalized. It was only at the end of the century that it was declared a municipal monument in the city of La Falda, shortly after a slow reconstruction and restoration began, only with the purpose of turning it into a museum.
Another more current and more sympathetic legend although this one without verification as the first and most unlikely if this were possible, speaks of the existence of ghosts and lost souls within its enormous and mysterious facilities. In fact, a night excursion is offered for tourists who are looking for strong emotions, they are taken to the bowels of the old construction only lit with flashlights and lamps, they go in search of characters that are in the afterlife who roam the rooms and corridors like souls in pain for the sins of their past lives.
The most optimistic believe that they could meet Hitler, the Prince of Wales or the Duke of Savoy, perhaps with Einstein or Che Guevara, they are just some of those who knew how to visit its exclusive facilities and perhaps, just perhaps have stayed there.

Me encanta la historia, me apasiona leer sobre gestas de personas comunes, como yo o como muchos otros, que sin proponérselo moldearon al mundo tal y como es ahora. Personas con defectos y virtudes, con ambiciones, con necesidades, con dones o sin ellos.
Es por eso que los museos me provocan una atracción particular, también los paseos y visitas guiadas por castillos, mansiones u hoteles de gran antigüedad, estén en uso, mantenidos solo para visitas o abandonados. Siempre hay guías o personas que conocen las historias que allí se desarrollaron, siempre son intrigantes y misteriosas.
Por ello en uno de mis viajes de vacaciones a la provincia de Córdoba visité junto a mi esposa el hotel Edén, una construcción de más de un siglo de antigüedad que estuvo abandonada por muchos años pero que desde hace algunos años y con pocos recursos se lo está restaurando, no para volver a ser lo que fue, solo para que el ocasional turista que visita la zona pueda conocerlo y a través de sus paredes, máquinas, salones y habitaciones reconstruir como se vivía y se atendía en aquellos años de principios del siglo XX.
Adicionalmente están los mitos y leyendas que lo hacen aún más interesante.
Este antiguo hotel tiene un par de historias que lo hacen muy atractivo; forma parte de la leyenda de la huída y estadía de Hitler en nuestro país, algo nunca comprobado pero tampoco desechado totalmente.
Según dice la historia, el hotel fue construido por un ex oficial alemán a fines del siglo XIX y en los comienzos del siguiente siglo se vendió a dos hermanos también ellos de origen alemán, personas ricas e influyentes de apellido Eichhorn; debido a una gran inversión de dinero se convirtió en una referencia vacacional para las familias adineradas de la Argentina y su fama trascendió las fronteras, por sus lujosas habitaciones pasaron presidentes, duques, príncipes y hasta reconocidas personalidades del arte como Toscanini y Rubén Darío.
Los dueños del hotel simpatizaron desde jóvenes con las ideas del futuro führer y se dice que fueron importantes contribuyentes y soporte financiero para su campaña de acceso al poder, luego de la caída de Alemania en la segunda guerra mundial el hotel fue incautado pero solo por dos años, rápidamente fue devuelto a sus dueños y allí nació la leyenda de que sirvió para una gran reunión de ex jefes nazis fugitivos, incluyendo a Hitler quien había llegado en secreto al país en un submarino poco tiempo antes.
Hacia fines de los años 50 el hotel fue abandonado y vandalizado. Recién para fines de siglo fue declarado monumento municipal de la ciudad de La Falda, poco tiempo después comenzó una lenta reconstrucción y restauración, solo con la finalidad de convertirlo en un museo.
Otra leyenda más actual y más simpática aunque también ésta sin comprobación como la primera y más inverosímil si esto fuera posible, habla de la existencia de fantasmas y almas en pena dentro de sus enormes y misteriosas instalaciones. De hecho se ofrece una excursión nocturna para turistas que buscan emociones fuertes: son llevados a las entrañas de la antigua construcción solo alumbrados con linternas y lámparas, van en búsqueda de personajes que están en el más allá, que deambulan por las habitaciones y pasillos como almas en pena por los pecados y acciones de sus pasadas vidas.
Los más optimistas creen que podrían encontrarse con Hitler, el Príncipe de Gales o el Duque de Saboya, quizás con Einstein o el Che Guevara, solo son algunos de los que supieron visitar sus exclusivas instalaciones y quizás, solo quizás haberse quedado por allí.
