 [Source](https://technode.com/2019/07/25/ethereum-gavin-woods-polkadot-china/) 2016 年，Ethereum其中一位Cofounder Gavin Wood 自立門戶一手創立 Polkadot 項目，而後隔年，Gavin建立的Web3 基金會便著手進行私募，發行 500 萬枚 DOT，籌得 1.44 億美元。 Polkadot的特點是將多個專用區塊鏈連接到一個統一的網路中，也就是一個「分片的跨鏈網絡」，每條鏈都可以為某個特定用例進行優化的新穎設計，同時它也支持無分叉的升級，允許區塊鏈隨著技術發展而進化和輕鬆適用，不像Bitcoin會有「軟分叉」和「硬分叉」。 這個在圈內風靡一時的項目今天終於啟動獨立的區塊鏈「CC1」，但它並未被視為「正式的主網」，而是作為「主網的候選網路」上線。根據該網絡的管理合作夥伴 Web3 基金會的說法，這代表項目已進入「Polkadot 主網推出」的第一階段。
