[ENG/ESP] The incredible Split Creek meanders through the Patagonian forest: one side goes to the Pacific, the other to the Atlantic.

Visiting such marvellous places as the Route of the Seven Lakes, we sometimes run the risk of not visiting other places that also have a particular charm despite not being as promoted and/or known as the lakes that we often find in this region, as is the case of the Arroyo Partido, from whose viewpoint located on the Route of the Seven Lakes, which is accessed via the well-known Route 40, you can admire all its natural beauty, winding through the forest that covers the majestic Patagonian landscape.

![20210901_093750.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/hubeyma/EoEp7YgLv6xZhiJrfUtne8hfS3ZAxqsqPP39cGuShLTi1ThA6QjuEaphrFSHct9kBcC.jpg)

This particular stream, located about 20 kms from San Martín de los Andes and born as a consequence of the thawing of the high peaks of Mount Chapelco, and which at first sight is lost among the meanders of the Andean Region, is a unique watershed, is a unique watershed in the world, since one of its courses will continue towards the Pacific Ocean, crossing the Andes Mountains and the neighbouring country of Chile (and for this reason it is a natural phenomenon of great geopolitical importance when determining border limits) and the other watercourse will cross the entire Patagonian steppe to flow into the Atlantic Ocean.

![20211111_121020.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/hubeyma/23u616MGimS1QpQqNPJrcLeHC3tLtEKMqkYodi3yBWPBA9ENN8ZY4fYQySqy8yQHmzqJt.jpg)

A few metres from the bridge over which we are standing and where we have taken these photos, the Arroyo Partido splits and its left branch becomes the Arroyo Culebra to begin a long journey that ends in the Atlantic Ocean as it then reaches the Rio Hermoso, running parallel to the route as opposed to the way we have taken it, It continues flowing into Lake Meliquina in the province of Neuquén, joins the Filo Hua Hum river forming the Caleufu river, the main tributary of the Collón Cura, which in turn becomes the main tributary of the Limay and Neuquén rivers, forming the Negro river, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

![20210901_093838.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/hubeyma/Eo4A9z7xv2DRXxupnuPUGgjUKZMVGFEFJUtYibEYAywDzmGfcNPhYAWjDpGR8UzZpRi.jpg)

The other watercourse (hence the name Arroyo Partido) forms the Pil Pil stream of which I had told you about in this post and which we also visited although from a distance from one of the panoramic viewpoints, pouring its waters into Lake Lácar, near San Martin de los Andes, then passing into Lake Nonthué, it crosses the Andes Mountain Range and through a system of rivers and lakes chained to each other, it crosses the entire trans-Andean territory to flow into the Pacific Ocean.

Due to time constraints we were not able to reach the valley and do some hiking, but for those who have the time and the desire to do some good trekking, the Curruhuinca Community offers guided hikes with snowshoe rentals - obviously in winter, we did this trip before the summer started - including drinks and snacks for sale and services such as toilets for those who wish to spend the day in the area. Although it is not a winter tourist area, at certain times of the year you can also hire snowsleds.

![20211111_172940.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/hubeyma/Ep1XNqrsL3wbmqnrYGgd22MzEKPBuj15Vr5dnxaeQqXucAdzJzgiGDEiJuxmFE3EL4M.jpg)

![20210901_093816.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/hubeyma/EopsWS6gpgyuBX8d765feX3YYAVxVvP54tB6y1aTDvBp8Yzb22jwCraupDKqZ8LnZ2G.jpg)
