To travel through the **Comarca Andina** is to come into close contact with nature.
Gravel roads and a universe of plants and animals that never fears or is disturbed by human presence.
On the contrary, people are a complement to the landscape, framed between the blue of an ever-bright sky and the green of the omnipresent vegetation.
Birds with their young walk the streets, squares and public spaces without fear of anything.
Young teros and bandurrias can be found at every turn in the middle of spring.
The huge, centuries-old plants not only decorate the landscape, they integrate it, giving it a characteristic of its own.
And it is about this vegetation that we find at every step that I would like to talk to you today.

> Calles de ripio y un universo vegetal y animal que en ningún momento teme o se ve disturbado por la presencia humana.
> Al contrario, las personas son un complemento del paisaje, enmarcado entre el azul de un cielo siempre luminoso y el verde de una vegetación omnipresente.
> Las aves con sus crías transitan las calles, las plazas y los espacios públicos sin miedo a nada.

The felling of plants is strictly forbidden in **El Bolsón**. A municipal authorisation and justification are required to do so. All plants are, in principle, protected plant species.
It is therefore rare to find a pavement without trees, an avenue without trees or a square with little shade.
Trees are lords and masters not only in El Bolsón but in the whole Andean Region. They are part of a natural environment where mountains, lakes, rivers and forests are integrated with mathematical perfection.
Each one respecting the place of the other. But also integrating and helping each other in their development.
For example, there are natural water channels in some of the gravel streets that serve not only to carry the water caused by the thawing of the high peaks in spring and summer, but also for the risk of the trees themselves.
The squares are continuously irrigated with this water and all the plants in the family houses are watered using the same system. Drinking water is used only for human consumption.

> La tala de las plantas está rigurosamente prohibida en **El Bolsón**. Es necesaria una autorización municipal y un justificativo para hacerlo. Todas las plantas son, en principio, especies vegetales protegidas.
> Por ese motivo es raro encontrar una vereda sin árboles, una avenida despoblada de los mismos o una plaza con poca sombra.
> Los árboles son amos y señores no solo en El Bolsón sino en toda la Comarca Andina. Integran un entorno natural donde montañas, lagos, ríos y bosques se integran con una perfección matemátca.
> Cada uno respetando el lugar del otro. Pero también integrándose y ayudando en su desarrollo.
> Por ejemplo hay canales naturales de agua en algunas calles de ripio que sirven no solo para llevar el agua provocada por el deshielo de las altas cumbres en primavera y verano, sino también para el riesgo d elos mismos árboles.
> Las plazas están continuamente regadas con este agua y todas las plantas de las viviendas familiares son regadas usando el mismo sistema. El agua potable se usa solo para el consumo humano.

Hundred-year-old, towering trees, cherry trees in blossom, broom in two colours, the traditional yellow and another yellow with a red tinge, a true natural beauty.
And the gravel roads that suddenly turn into country lanes with a water channel that serves, among other things, to irrigate the corpulent and ancient walnut trees that take us to the farms where the farmers prepare the harvest of fine fruit: blueberries, cherries, strawberries, etc.
And always the plants. Fruit-giving, like the walnut trees, or shade-giving, like an infinite variety of pines and radales, a plant species native to the region.
There is an old legend that has been passed down from generation to generation that in the vicinity where a radal tree grows there is always a spring of water.

> Arboles centenarios, altísimos, cerezos en flor, retamas de dos colores, la tradicional amarillo y otra amarilla jaspeada de rojo, una verdadera belleza natural.
> Y las calles de ripio que de repente se transforman en calles vecinales costeadas por un canal de agua que sirve, entre otras cosas, para regar corpulentos y antiguos nogales que nos llevan a las fincas donde los agricultores preparan la cosecha de fruta fina: arándanos, cerezas, frutillas, etc.
> Y siempre las plantas. Que dan fruta, como los nogales, o que dan sombra como una infinita variedad de pinos y radales, una especie vegetal autóctona de la región.
> Dice una antigua leyenda que se transmite de generación en generación que en las cercanías donde crece un radal hay siempre una surgente de agua.
It is difficult to walk through this mountain town (although its inhabitants with endearing modesty prefer to speak of a "big town" and not a city to differentiate it from the mundane and cosmopolitan aspect of the latter) and not look up to admire the grandeur of the landscape and its plants.
The mountain, the Piltriquitrón - affectionately called "Piltri" to abbreviate its pronunciation - and the coniferous forests that descend from the mountain serve only to complement the landscape with the innumerable plants of El Bolsón.
**El Piltri and El Bolsón** are an inseparable unit. They could not exist without each other. And the lush vegetation, sometimes high mountain and sometimes native to this valley, serve as a natural environment for this magical place.

> Es difícil caminar por esta ciudad de montaña (aunque sus pobladores con simpática modestia prefieren hablar de "pueblo grande" y no de ciudad para diferenciarla del aspecto mundano y cosmopilta que tienen éstas) y no alzar la vista en continuación para admirar la grandiosidad del paisaje y sus plantas.
> La montaña, el Piltriquitrón -llamada cariñosamente "Piltri" para abreviar su pronunciación- y los bosques de coníferas que bajan de la montaña sirven solo para complementar el paisaje con las innumerables plantas de El Bolsón.
> **El Piltri y El Bolsón** son una unidad inseparable. No podrían existir uno sin el otro. Y la exhuberante vegetación, a veces de alta montaña y a veces autóctona de este valle, sirven de entorno natural a este mágico lugar.

The microclimate of El Bolsón favours not only the growth of trees and large plant species but also serves for the development of other economic activities such as the production of fine fruits, hops that are used in an infinity of local artisan breweries, organic vegetables with stalls and fairs in different points of the city, timber and its derivatives, an activity that has increased notoriously with the import of a new species such as the Oregon Pine of fast growth and ideal for reforestation.
An abundant and comfortable lodging structure makes the tourist feel comfortable: a great number of rustic cabins but with all the comforts, daily rental flats, hotels with a graceful façade in the classic alpine style that are complemented with travel agencies, guided tours and first class gastronomic establishments that offer meals elaborated with products of the area.

> Las bondades del microclima de El Bolsón favorecen no solo el crecimiento de árboles y especies vegetales de gran tamaño sino también sirve para el desarrollo de otras actividades económicas como son la producción de frutas finas, lúpulo que se usa en una infinidad de cervecerías artesanales locales, verduras orgánicas con puestos de venta y ferias en diversos puntos de la ciudad, madereras y sus derivados, una actividad que se ha incrementado notoriamente con la importación de una especie nueva como es el Pino Oregón de rápido crecimiento e ideal para la reforestación.
> Una estructura de alojamientos abundante y confortable hace sentir cómodo al turista: gran cantidad de cabañas rústicas pero con todas las comodidades, departamentos de alquiler diario, hoteles con una graciosa fachada en el clásico estilo alpino que se complementan con agencias de viaje, visitas guiadas y establecimientos gastronómicos de primer nivel que ofrecen comidas elaboradas con productos de la zona.

Unlike other mountain towns where during the hot hours tourists have to shut themselves up in their air-conditioned lodgings, in El Bolsón the possibilities of discovering the charms of nature allow us to be on the move all day long.
We will always find the cosy shade of a tree to protect us from the sun that in the early afternoon falls on the valley making its temperature felt.
Numerous rivers, lakes and tributaries in the vicinity allow us to refresh ourselves and continue on our way. Trails, itineraries and majestic plants are never ending.

> A diferencia de otras ciudades de montaña donde durante las horas de calor los turistas se deben encerrar en sus alojamientos con aire acondicionado, en El Bolsón las posibilidades de descubrir los encantos de la naturaleza nos permiten estar en movimiento durante todo el día.
> Siempre encontraremos la acogedora sombra de un árbol para protegernos del sol que durante las primeras horas de la tarde cae a pico en el valle haciendo sentir su temperatura.
> Numerosos rios, lagos y afluentes en las cercanías nos permiten refrescarnos y seguir camino. Senderos, itinerarios y majestuosos plantas para ser infinitas, no terminan nunca.

The time for rest is approaching. We have walked and seen almost all of El Bolsón. Its main streets and secondary arteries.
Asphalt and gravel, tree-lined avenues and streets where the passing cars leave behind them a curtain of dust.
Pines, cherry trees, walnut trees, radales and an infinity of plant species that we do not know but that are equally beautiful.
Birds pecking at the ground without worrying about passers-by. A copy of teros, with their characteristic cry, instructs their young to be attentive and take refuge at the sign of the slightest danger.
Looking at this marvellous landscape and the perfect harmony between the plant and animal world, we almost feel like intruders.
We continue walking slowly as if afraid of disturbing so much tranquillity.
Perhaps it is the humans who have not yet learnt to integrate with them.

> Se aproxima la hora del descanso. Hemos caminado y conocido casi todo El Bolsón. Sus calles principales y sus arterias secundarias.
> Asfalto y ripio, avenidas pobladas de árboles y calles donde el pasar de los autos deja detrés de ellos una cortina de polvo.
> Pinos, cerezos, nogales, radales y una infinidad de especies vegetales que no conocemos pero que son igualmente hermosas.
> Aves que picotean la tierra sin preocuparse por el paso de los transeúntes. Una copia de teros, con su característico grito, adquiere a sus crias de estar atentos y refugiarse al signo del menor peligro.
> Mirando ese paisaje maravilloso y esa perfecta armonía entre mundo vegetal y animal, casi casi nos sentimos unos intrusos.
> Seguimos caminando lentamente como con miedo de molestar tanta tranquilidad.
> Tal vez seamos los humanos que no hemos todavía aprendido a integrarnos con ellos.
