And of course, people in many professions are incentivized to accept and promote  the establishment narrative.  As a US Air Force civil servant, I started out believing in the mission. But, I gradually realized that the organization I worked for was a major component of an imperialistic foreign policy, incredibly evil in its conception and scope. Let me tell you from hard experience, if you possess even a modicum of self-respect, nothing is worth losing it. Don't try to rationalize that your family's financial security obligates you to stick it out, as I did for a while, almost subconsciously. The internal conflict, the "nagging voice inside," as Caitlin puts it,  slowly ate me alive both physically and psychologically, and turned me into something my family and I did not like.
