 Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. So today is June 12 a special day in Nigeria, I would like to give you a glimpse of the special holiday. June 12 is democracy day in Nigeria. The day is set aside to celebrate the first time the military government handed power to the civilian government in 1999, marking it the start of a continuous civilian rule since Nigeria got independence in 1960, it's a celebration that has been held yearly since the beginning of the year 2000. Nigerians celebrate the occasion to mark the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. The initial date for the occasion was May 29, marking the newly elected president Mr Olusegun Obasanjo as he ascended office in 1999, ending the reign of military rule since the beginning of the rule in 1966. On the 6th of June, 2018, eight days after Nigerians celebrated 29th of May 2018 as democracy day, the current president Mr. Buhari led the Nigeria Federal Government to declare the 12th of June as the new democracy celebration day. These were done to commend the Democratic election of Late Mr MKO Abiola on the 12th of June 1993, it was judged as Nigeria's freest election, unfortunately, he was arrested and the election was cancelled by Late Gen Ibrahim Babangida whose letter declared himself head of state. Today there will be an ongoing peaceful protest, Nigerians are taking it to the streets and highways to protest against the current government of the country, the security system, the ban on social media platforms like Twitter and more issues happening in the country. I pray no harm comes to my people. it's likely the government may retaliate against peaceful protesters.
