Yesterday the black stars of Ghana played against Portugal in their first opening match of the Fifa 2022 in Qatar. I was expecting the black stars to go for a win since no African country has won their first game in the tournament but unfortunately, Portugal was the better side as they won the match and took all three points.


The first half ended in a draw as both teams were unable to get the opening goal, Portugal tried creating chances to unlock Ghana's defense but the black stars stood their ground and even Ronaldo had a tough time creating a scoring opportunity.


The first goal was scored in the 65th minute from a penalty given by the referee to Portugal, the referee made a bad decision for giving Portugal that penalty, it was clear there was no contact between the Ghanaian defender and Ronaldo, Ronaldo clearly dived in the penalty box. 


The Ghanaian players even asked the referee to check the VAR but he refused and still insists on his decision. What is the essence of having VAR when it's not being used in important decisions? But anyways the decision was already made, Ronaldo took the penalty and scored, and the Portuguese star has now become the first men's player to score 5 consecutive times in the world cup.


The black stars leveled the scoreline in the 73rd minute, Danilo Pereira from Portugal made a defensive error in the box which lead 

Andre Ayew from Ghana quickly made a tap-in into the open goalpost and scored the first goal in the tournament from Africa.


Portugal got their lead back in the space of five minutes after Ayew's goal, Bruno Fernandes created a scoring opportunity for his teammate, Joao Felix, the Portuguese youngster who played a shot into the side net of the goalpost. Portugal extended their lead to two in the 80th minute, Bruno Fernandes played a through ball to Rafael Leao who received the ball and played it into the goalposts. I thought the goal would be canceled because it seemed Leao was offside but it was given.


Ghana reduced Portugal's lead to one in the 89th minute, Abdul Rahman Baba from Ghana swung a cross into the box as Osman Bukari from Ghana headed the ball into the goalpost. The funny part was when Osman Bukari did Ronaldo celebrate Suuu when his team was still a goal down, there was no need for the celebration except he was trying to mock Ronaldo😂.


Ghana had a chance to level the scoreline in the 90+ 8 minutes but failed. I saw Ronaldo on the sidelines, almost shocked when Ghana was close to scoring a goal. The match ended and Portugal won, it was an intense second half but in the end, only one winning came out. Ghana gave their best but it was enough to put them on the path to victory.
