It is a good time to be alive!

I mean, think about it. We’ve got the internet, instant messaging, instant food, elevators and even Steemit. Awesome, isn't it? There is so much to catch on too. There are innovations sprouting like weeds and we can’t just get enough of them. Blink your eye for a second and you’ll miss something. It is like watching a fast-paced movie; something is going to happen soon and you don’t want to miss it. The information you had yesterday is outdated. There’s a new fashion craze. It is the end and beginning of the world at the same time. Someone somewhere has just said/written/created something that will blow your mind away!

And that’s exactly what’s happening to many of us, to me. Our minds are being blown away from the things that matter. We become so engross in the rush that we do not take the time to stop and check on ourselves. Everyone is scared of missing out. We are like athletes that begin a race, notice that our shoe laces are undone and yet keep running because we want to keep up. Athletes don’t win races that way, and neither do writers.

I dare say I am a writer. Because I clack away on my keyboard every day? Well, that’s half the reason. The other half: because I think a lot about writing. This thinking, the daily thought process, is what keeps me going. Without it, I am just a typist or… (fill it in). I realise overtime that I have been so concerned about what writing gives rather than writing itself. I’m not a generous guy but I have no issue giving Steemit a lot of credit for that. I’m so focused on applying for one contest after the other. Every day, I check my earnings to see if a whale has visited or I’ve received the daily upvotes I had paid for.

Long story short, I am taking a break from it all. The thing is the world will keep introducing changes and innovations even when I am dead. If I cannot live at the world’s pace, it’s better I stay at mine and enjoy all that I can enjoy in this life. So beginning from the 1st of April, I won’t be as active as I use to be on Steemit. This is because I am taking off time to work on my magazine, my mind and my writing. These three matter a lot to me, even more than SBD and Steem.

But I have to keep writing. I can’t help it. (Even right now, I am fighting the urge to send an entry for a contest.) How do I strike a balance? Speaking with @akintunde, I got the ‘perfect’ idea: write a diary. So for the next 30 days, I will be sharing my thoughts and experiences, right here on Steemit. I’m still a struggling writer, so the diary will feature much of my growing process. I am also going to talk about my magazine. It is going to be as plain as I can allow (I’m a somewhat reserved person). I don’t know what’s going to come out of it but I’m going to give it a trial.
