# The philosophical meaning of position, motion, and poetry in Saman dance.
Saman dance is one of Aceh dances that is quite unique, because it only displays the motion of applause and other movements, such as body movement, head, and body position. Another uniqueness is seen from the sitting position of the dancers and the wobble of the body that is stomped left or right, when the poems are hymn. This dance is usually played by dozens of man dancer, but the number must be odd. However, in further development, this dance is played also by women or a mixture of men and women.
This Saman Dance is usually performed to celebrate important events in Acehnese customs. The song and poetry in Saman Dance uses Arabic and Gayo language. In addition, this dance is usually performed to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The name of the "Saman dance" was obtained from one of Aceh's great scholars named Syech Saman.

# The functions of Saman dance as this following:
## Dancer Number 9 is called the Lifter
Lifter is the main character as same as syekh in seudati dance. That's as The central point in Saman dance, which determines the movement of dance, dance level, poetry that is echoed or poems in response to the opponent's attack (Saman Jalu).
## Dancers Number 8 and 10 are called Clamps
Clamps are auxiliary figures of  lifter dance and singing / vocal movements.
## Dancers Number 2-7 and 11-16 are called Pincers
Pincers are ordinary dancers who support dance or dance moves directed lifter. In addition as a dancer also plays a squeeze (squeeze). 4) Syek, a song sung by a dancer with a high-pitched voice, usually as a sign of change of motion.
