<i><b>Una sera Luca scende a buttare la spazzatura, ma quando cerca di rientrare nella sua casa, al 20° piano di un palazzone di periferia, scopre che nel suo appartamento ci abita un'altra persona e che la sua vita, come era fino a qualche momento prima, non esiste più. Cominciano da questo momento per Luca nuove ed inaspettate avventure che si mischiano ai ricordi della sua vecchia vita.</b></i>

OcchiodiFalco mi aveva riferito che da un anno e mezzo Jerry era finito, per via dell'Alzheimer, in un ospizio, uno di quei posti che, con molta fantasia e tanta ipocrisia, viene definito “casa protetta”. 
Protetta da chi? 
Meglio ancora: chi deve proteggere chi? 
Proteggono chi sta dentro da quelli che stanno fuori? 
Oppure la protezione riguarda quelli che stanno fuori dal dover badare a quelli che stanno dentro? 
Forse sono quelli che stanno dentro a dover essere protetti a sé stessi? 
Magari sono quelli che stanno fuori a dover essere protetti da sé stessi? 
A volte mi veniva anche il dubbio che chi era dentro doveva essere protetto soprattutto da quelli che erano lì per proteggerli. Tutta questa protezione per gente che faceva spesso fatica a muoversi, a parlare, a ricordare, spesso anche a mangiare e a bere mi sembra tutto sommato eccessiva, andando a trovare Jerry mi sembrò che avesse bisogno forse di qualcuno che gli tenesse una mano più che di tutta quella protezione pelosa.
Perché Jerry, appena venni a sapere che era stato internato, andai a trovarlo, la protezione infatti si trovava in città e io lavoravo non molto distante, una ventina di minuti coi mezzi pubblici dalla sua nuova casa. 
Lo trovai invecchiato, vinto dalla vita e dalla malattia, più che protetto era demente, chiamare la sua malattia col nome di un tizio non era sufficiente a nascondere il fatto che si trattava ormai di un povero demente. 
Lo dico perché non mi riconobbe nemmeno, non mi mandò nemmeno affanculo e si ricordava con difficoltà persino di essere stato un musicista.
Mi fece talmente pena che, ipocrita come tutti gli altri, dopo quella prima volta che, spinto da chissà quale forza, ero arrivato fino a lì col timore di essere preso a sediate in testa, pur sapendo che il vecchio Jerry non mi avrebbe fatto alcun male, non andai a trovarlo mai più. 
Quella sola volta mi aveva messo una tale tristezza che, da buon egoista, quando, raramente, una vocina dentro di me mi diceva di passare a trovarlo, avevo sempre pronta la scusa che era una cosa inutile, visto che nemmeno mi sapeva più riconoscere.
Eppure quell'uomo mi era stato padre mille volte di più del mio vero padre, mi aveva aiutato in ogni modo, i primi anni anche economicamente, ma sempre con i suoi consigli. 
Vero, certo, che io non li ho mai seguiti i suoi consigli, solo rarissime volte mi sono lasciato convincere e sempre me ne sono poi pentito. Ascoltarlo però, discutere con lui, mi serviva per chiarirmi le idee, per capire come la pensavo, per crescere. 
Jerry è stato quel mito, quell'icona, quel monumento, da fare a pezzi per diventare un uomo. 
Ma era con un uomo vero che mi confrontavo e sempre mi ha tenuto testa, senza mai essere condiscendente. 
Mi ha fatto vedere, ogni volta che sembravo ignorarlo, l'altro lato della medaglia, per non parlare delle lezioni che mi dava dimostrandosi sempre, costantemente, molto più bravo di me con la chitarra, per quanti sforzi io facessi per imparare il più possibile da lui.

Hawkeye had told me that from a year and a half Jerry was finished, due to the Alzheimer, in a hospice, one of those places that, with a lot of imagination and so much hypocrisy, is called ""protected house"".
Protected by whom?
Better yet: who should protect who?
Protect thoseelf inside from those who are out?
Or does the protection concern those who are out of having to look after those who are inside?
Maybe those who are inside having to be protected themselves?
Maybe they are those who are out to have to be protected by themselves?
Sometimes I also doubt that those who were inside had to be protected above all by those who were there to protect them. 
All this protection for people who often did struggling to move, to talk, to remember, often even eating and drinking seems to me all over excessive, going to find Jerry seemed to me that he needed perhaps someone who held him a hand more than in All that hairy protection.
Because Jerry, as soon as I learned that he had been interned, I went to see him, the protection was in the city and I worked not far away, twenty minutes with public transport from the new house of him.
I found it aged, won by life and illness, more than protected was demented, call him's disease with a guy's name was not enough to hide the fact that it was now a poor person.
I say this because he wouldn't even recognize me, he didn't even send me out and he remembered it with difficulty even having been a musician.
It made me mean that, hypocritical like everyone else, after the first time that, pushed by who knows what force, I had arrived so with the fear of being taken to the head, though knowing that the old Jerry would not have done any Evil, I would never see him again.
That one time had put such a sadness that, as a good selfish, when, rarely, a voice inside me told me to move to see him, I always spent the excuse that it was a useless thing, since even he knew me more to recognize.
Yet that man had been a father a thousand times more than my true father, he had helped me in every way, the first few years even economically, but always with the advice of him.
True, of course, that I never followed them the advice of him, only very rare times I let myself be convinced and I always repented. 
But listen to him, discussing with him, I needed it to clarify my ideas, to understand how I thought, to grow.
Jerry was that myth, that icon, that monument, to be torn to become a man.
But he was with a true man who confronted me and always gave me my mind, without ever being condescending.
He showed me, every time I seemed to ignore it, the other side of the coin, not to mention the lessons that gave me always showing, constantly, much better than me with the guitar, for how many efforts I did to learn as much as possible from him.
