The Family is the smallest unit in the society. In the family everyone has a role to play, in our society it seems each member of the family has a specific role like the woman is suppose to cook and clean the house, take care of the children while the man is only vested with the responsibility of providing for the family that is take care of the bills and everything that pertains to finances.

 Let me ask us this question, is this structure of the family attainable in the 21 century society were roles are specified? For me it is No. Let me explain; the wants and needs of the family in this present age is massive and will need everyone to work together to sustain the family, let's consider the current economic situation in the world, you can not have one person footing the bills of the family, and this is the more reason women should be encouraged to work and not be full time house wives, by so doing, they will be able to support their husbands financially. We have some men who do not do any house chores believing that they provide for the family so they can't do chores, a wife is not a slave and the man should assist in basic house chores like cleaning or even doing the dishes, by doing this, it doesn't reduce your place as the head of the family, even the holy book says that >a woman is a help meet to the man and not a slave. 
What if you have a family were both the man and woman are working and the wife closes from work late should the man cook? Some men see cooking like a taboo, I don't know who made the rules that cooking is for the women, to answer this question I will say yes the man can prepare dinner while waiting for the wife to arrive from work, believe me it doesn't reduce your place as a man. Do we talk about doing the Laundry? Oh some men won't even wash their under wears let alone their shirts; to me I believe this is sheer laziness and if you look at it, you would know it is not fair on the woman to do her laundry and that of the man too,a little assistance won't hurt a man's ego, if we support each other in the family by not being role specific it will help the family grow and also teach the children about support, love, unity and respect. These little things we overlook can help the family grow and help ease stress and pressure among family members. 
Women do need their husbands to support them in domestic chores, it will help reduce stress and some diseases that comes with lack of rest. The men also want their wives to support them financially, this will help reduce some pressure on them.

The society should not shape how a particular family should run their affairs because what works for X might not work for Y . Roles should not be gender specified, each member of the family can execute any role in the family, after all, the family is supposed to be a United entity.
