What I wrote at work
Once upon a time, Bathusela and Jeepers had a home of their own. They had spent an incredibly long time remodeling it, until finally it was their ideal home. On the day they proclaimed themselves finished, a representative of Bill Gates came to warn them that their home would soon be neighbor to a lithium mine, and if they didn't want to lose its value, they'd better sell it to Bill Gates right away. They felt sad. They felt like they didn't have much choice, or much power. They went ahead and sold it. The lithium mine, which Bill Gates also owned, demolished the home they loved, and extracted lithium from beneath their home as well. Bathusela and Jeepers didn't feel like buying another house right away. They were still mourning the loss of their home, so they went on a trip. First, they took a cruise ship to the Caribbean, but the curated luxury of a cruise wasn't what they wanted. Bathusela loved to be useful, and Jeepers loved to pet cats, and there were neither cats nor opportunities to be useful on board. By the time they realized this, they were already miles from shore. Bathusela tried to, very usefully, be a cat for Jeepers, but she wasn't very successful. So they wandered thoughtlessly from activity to activity, never really getting involved. When at last the Cruise was over they began searching for a place to establish a cat rescue. Lo and behold, property prices had skyrocketed in part due to rising demand from Bill Gates. They wound up renting from Bill. They watched their nest egg crumble... Probably some thing that destabilizes calcium in the environment....
