Witcher journey - I combined two channels and and wow, where was I before?

<p>It's one of these rare cases when my post is not going to be about fine art, but about art of writing and art of creating games.</p>
<p>On the last week my husband went to &nbsp;a business trip and I stayed home for a perfect introvert weekend: with 7000 pages of Witcher book and 50GB of Witcher game. So, in general, I just combined gaming and reading to receive the best result of Tolkien's "escape" lol:)</p>

<p>May be one thing I need to say about it will be not completely understandable for some people who also love games. When I first saw games like Skyrim, or Witcher - I really experienced difficulties with controlling character's movement. I was the one who used to MMORPG control manner and moving with a mouse and a keyboard at the same time was like a great challenge for me. As a result I gave up playing in first 5-10 minutes, being unable to deal with the direction of movement. But this time a miracle happened, and for no reason I all of a sudden was completely able to control the character. And so my journey to the Witcher's world began.</p>

<p>Well, not exactly like that. We share one &nbsp;gaming account with my husband, so while he was playing I began reading first. Usually I know if I love the book after first 10-20 pages, and this was that rare love from the first three ones. The further the harder it is for me to find a book that I will really like, despite all my love to reading, so when it finally happens I usually read like a crazy one, day and nigh until I finish it. Well, Witcher became for me exactly this type of a book.</p>

<p>&nbsp;The first thing I payed attention on - wow, it's perfect for a quest pack story. Meaning - every chapter could really be transformed to a game quest, easily. As if the author was doing it deliberately. And this woke my interest to the game even more. By the way, to mention here, once I heard from a friend that her 5 years old son loves this game... When I first played it I wondered: does the obscene words are able to switch off?:) Or she just doesn't know about it?:) Definitely it's not a language suitable for 5 years. But back to my story.</p>

<p>So, I started playing on the next day, and game and book combined in my head together. And it was so wonderful I can't even describe, really a perfect introverted weekend, plus by the way soon I'll have another one like this, when my hubby will be on a business trip again. I remember reading the Lord of the Rings and playing LotR, playing SWtoR while watching Star Wars - yep, this c-c-c-combo always works.</p>

What you said about movement was pretty interesting. My problem with video games has been less about movement and more about camera angles (although problems with fine movements can be a real issue in games, even for an experienced veteran like myself). 

For me, the issue of cameras is being solved with VR. However, we've still got a ways before intuitive movement is completely solved. It's something that us gamers take for granted, but it's a real barrier for people looking to get into games.

Congrats on getting over the steep learning curve of today's video games! I wasn't clear from the article: do you use a controller or mouse and keyboard? It sounded like you had trouble with mouse and keyboard, so I was curious.

I'd say she knows about it, I was one of those parents XD What the kids pick up depends on what they're paying attention to though, if they're too busy playing the game and trying not to die they might not even be listening to half of what's been said (standard operating procedure for some kids really XD).  And even if he did if she tells him they're cuss words he probably knows not to say them in front of his grandparents.  But again I'm projecting XD

Man this looks like the kind of game I'd be thoroughly into if I still gamed.  Yay for getting over the initial difficulty with the controls :) Seems it can be a bit tricky to get your head around navigating 3d space in what's technically a 2d space XD

I don't know how exactly it looks in English version, my lexicon of English obscene is really limited. But it's also considered that Russian obscene is one of the richest, so... Even being an adult I went slightly blush sometimes, may be if I was a kid and my mom heard that I play such game she would forbid me:) In Russian version:)
