> Their planet was tidally locked. They'd never heard of life forming on a world that spun despite the gravity of their sun. Then they learned of worlds like the Earth, and a whole new perspective opened for them. -- Anon Guest

[AN: I have seen _SO_ much speculative biology based on eyeball worlds. They for sure wouldn't be Havenworlders though]

Nobody from a Deathworld believes they're _on_ a Deathworld until they see the alternatives. This holds true for worlds that should definitely not grow cogniscent life.

Mind you, most Havenworlders believe that Deathworlds should definitely not grow cogniscent life.

Nevertheless, as a wise philosopher once said, life finds a way. And in this case, residents of an eyeball world made it as far as the stars. They had widened their territories on their homeworld into both the hostile heat and the deadly cold of their tidally-locked planet. It was not that much further of a venture to sail out into the inky black of space.

Where they discovered more than a few interesting surprises regarding their assumptions. Starting with the concept of planetary rotation. Of course, those worlds were unnatural outliers and could not _possibly_ harbour life. They certainly couldn't grow _intelligent_ life.

They found life anyway. Whilst looking for other eyeball worlds for signs of civilisation. They came from an ignored rotating planet, and found ways to communicate. In the process, they learned that _they_ were the impossible ones. That _they_ were the statistical outliers in the progress of life.

They were heartened to learn that those greeting them shared the same curiosity and sense of adventure as them.

They were most disheartened to learn that their new friends were Humans. The one species universally accepted as insane. But they had so much in common...

Including egocentrism, a gung-ho attitude to the universe at large, and the desire to pet anything alive.

They did manage to improve themselves after some remedial information from the rest of the Alliance.
