For every advance in science, society, and technology, there's at least one band of lunatics willing to oppose it with their very lives. Worse than those are the groups willing to oppose it with _anyone else's_ life.

They both put up a strong fight, and it's hard to tell them apart without close scrutiny.

When lives are on the line, such as a viral outbreak in a planetary population, it ultimately doesn't matter. Fleets of Pure Life Advocates blockaded smaller fleets of Medik vessels attempting to answer the world's distress call.

"You have no right to interfere with the natural evolution of this world," declared the Pure Life Advocates. "Let the strong survive and make their descendants improve."

"We are answering a legitimate distress call from the united polities of the planet you're blockading," said the admiral of the Medik fleet. "You have ten minutes to clear a path or one will be cleared for us."

"If you murder us, the rest of the Alliance will know about it in seconds," gloated the Pure Life Advocates. "Go ahead. Do your worst. It'll only make you look like fascists."

"Who said anything about murder?" said the admiral of the Medik fleet.

That was when the CRC Peacebringer emerged from the wormhole and set a course _through_ the Pure Life Advocate blockade. Their Hungry Caterpillar systems running hot. The Pure Life fleet had a choice. Remain where they were and get their ships recycled for scrap, their crews imprisoned for crimes against cogniscent life, and their efforts rendered moot. Or they could clear a path and lose whilst looking like cowards.

The Pure Life Advocates chose both. Half of them fled while the other half literally threw their vessels at the CRC Peacebringer. Visions of martyrdom dancing in their heads.

Either way, they lost. The Mediks were allowed to intervene, and thereby save a world.
