> I may be in a wheelchair, but I can still kick your tail before you raise that blade. I'm limited, not helpless. -- Fighting Fit

[AN: Tempted to use Kosh's all-terrain wheelchair with caterpillar treads for this one, but nah. Should aim for the normal model]

The streets are paved well, and for that I am grateful. I've seen the perambulatory chair favoured by a noble or two, but that thing is frighteningly complicated. My main wheels are from a velocipede, and the secondary ones are from a baby buggy. There's lever brakes and straps for my legs, and that's usually all I need. There are calipers for when I need to reach something high, but they remain in their holster, most of the time.

Most people in my neighbourhood know me and offer to help, or otherwise let me pass by when the aisles were narrow. _Most_ people saw the chair and chose to be kind. Most. But not all.

There's always _someone_ who chooses to be an asshole because they _can_ look down on a person. And when you're in a moving chair? Lots of people are taller.

This example was not a local. Rich clothing, but not _Noble_ clothing. Likely some moneyed Merchant's brat who thought he could buy his way out of anything. He literally tried to kick my chair out of his way, but my brake was engaged so he stubbed his toe and scuffed the suede of his shoe.

I turned the chair just in time to watch him screaming at me. "You get that inconvenience _out_ of my way, you pathetic wretch! I could have you hanged for abusing my property!"

"_You_ kicked _me_," I said.

"You will address me as _sir_," he sneered down his nose, "Cripple."

I said, "No. You don't deserve it."

He reached for his steel. I reached for my caliper. The instant his sword hit my caliper, it shattered. I continued my swing and battered his arms, his head, and his stupid fancy clothes until he ran screaming for the Watch.

It helped that his sword fragments cut up my face and arm. It really helped that there were a dozen people who had seen it all. The biggest help of all that the Watch had great difficulty believing I was the aggressor.

After all, I had never in my life picked a fight, and the Watch knew that.

Asshole rich boys, on the other hand, were more trouble than their purses were worth. That boy was going to get an interesting discussion with his father when it was time to bail him out of the tanty.

Reminds me of when I was recovering back in 2013. I'd had a sciatic flareup so bad it repinched the nerve and they had to surgically go in and move the nerves out of the pinch point and fix it so they wouldn't pinch like that easily again.

For a while, in stores, I had to use those motor-carts. I dislike using them because they're slow, and I can't reach everything I need from them. But getting up and down still hurt, a lot. And I couldn't stand long.

The incident was this. There were multiple carts not being used. I hobbled in on my cane, settled into the seat, and went into the store to shop, and this {censored} instead of just taking one of the other available carts, was following me around yelling at me to get my "lazy arse" out of the cart, and "nothing's wrong with you," and "My feet are tired I should have that you don't need it!" Etc.

When I pointed out that there were others it was then "But I always use THIS one because it's got the extra cushions!" Except that, that "extra cushions" was my temporary back brace and a soft pillow *I* had brought with me to sit upon on the cart to try to ease the remaining ache.

She even tried to yank me off the cart. Yes I am heavy still. And I used my cane, which I'd put across the basket, to hit her. She started screaming at the top of her lungs as if I was killing her while shaking the cart. I mean literally you would *swear* she was being violently, brutally, murdered the way she was shrieking.

Security came up, she tried this BS story of how I shoved her out of the cart, took her cushions, and refused to return it to her. They looked at the video, saw her BS, and she got kicked out.

I mean yeesh, there were SEVERAL other of those motor-carts, she could've grabbed one of the others if she was that desperate to use one. But no, she wanted the "cushioned one". Though if I'd gotten off I'd've taken the cushions with me since a part of them was my back brace and the other I'd've grabbed since it was my pillow I was using to protect me while I was recovering from the minor surgery.

To this day I have no idea why she decided to act like that. It made absolutely no sense. Yes I can walk normal again, mostly. And I was *really* glad to not have to use those motorized store carts anymore. I really dislike how slow they are.

She acted like that because she was an entitled knomira who thought you had something extra so SHE had to have it instead.

Sounds like it's a pity you don't have my "party trick" of turning deathly pale when in medical distress. Never had a worry with a knomira when that happens. Alongside my other "party trick" of turning cyanotic during Sneezin' and Wheezin' Season.

Bloody Knomiras. They need keepers with very short leashes. And maybe muzzles.
