We know the sun is still there. We can see its corona around the shadow of the moon. We're lucky that we have the technology to grow crops without sunlight. We're _very_ lucky that our energy sources aren't causing more problems than they solved.
If this had happened half a century earlier, we would be looking to our extinction in a mere handful of years.
If it had happened a mere decade earlier, we would have perished because greater industry would have put global survival behind a paywall. Thus ending civilisation as we knew it in favour of useless profit. More rational minds, thankfully, prevailed.
There's talk, now, of an initiative to shave the moon. Some were hoping it would move away from its orbital lock, just like it moved _into_ the lock. But since that's not happening, a lot of us would like some sunshine back.
Yes, we need a moon for tides and rotational stability. The debate is about how _much_ moon we need for that. Shaving the moon foot by foot and seeing what happens is almost as ludicrous as the orbital mirror project.
But we also need sunshine for all sorts of things. Including the wild biota that makes this world far more healthy and viable.
And it would be nice to have a summer again.
The way things are going? We might end up shaving the moon _and_ launching orbital mirrors. It's looking better than turning the moon into a disco ball and hoping for the best.
