Steemian Storybook No.4 : Banality of evil
April, 4, 1961, there was tribunals in Jerusalem, Israel. Defendant was Karl Adolf Eichmann who was SS-Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel) and one of the major organisers of the Holocaust. He was prosecuted for the transferred millions of Judean to Auschwitz Birkenau. Hearing the accusation, Hannah Arendt visited Israel tribunals as correspondent. She was suppressed under the Nazis party, because she was Judean and born in German. She had a narrow escape from the Nazis and now settled down in America.

Hannah Arendt was anger at Eichmann's atrocious crime and thought Eichmann was evil Nazis fanatic. But when she faced Eichmann in court, he was opposite to what she thought. Eichmann lived common and normal life except that he was Schutzstaffel(SS). He was warm father to his two son and a kind master sergeant to his units. He maintained harmonious social relationship. On top of that, he has Judean friends.
After the court, she wort what was the reason of Holocaust, in her book, Eichmann in Jerusalem. She suggest 'Banality of evil' in her book and described as follows. Eichmann was not a evil Nazis fanatic crazy at destructive ideas. He was very common person like us. In the same manner, the majority part of evil deed in history was caused not by psychopath or madman but caused by the common who adapted to the majority and was stuck in a rut, so could not jude what is right and wrong. Reason Eichmann was guilty was he had no notion at what he should not do. When we ordered to do evil, what can stop us is only thinking what is right value.

Steemian, all of us could be situated to be evil. What made Eichmann transferred millions of Judean to Auschwitz Birkenau was not he was evil man, it was because stucking in a rut, he do not think what is right. In other word, all of us could be evil when we stop judging and have no intention to think for oneself. Steemin, what about your today is? In the group, in the giant media, in the Steemit, don't you stuck in a rut and stop thinking? Don't you just vote th the one famous post because other steemian vote? I want you to be the Steemian who could estimate the post and vote for yourself not by another steemian.
