Becoming quadriplegic meant I had to learn how to do everything again. I had to learn to walk and use my hands again. This putty helped me to move my fingers and retrain my nerves to do what I took for granted my entire life.

I learned that we must be thankful for all of our abilities. Squeezing the putty was extremely painful thanks to nerve damage. It took months to learn to use my hands again including writing, typing, buttoning my shirts, tieing my shoes and on and on.

This is my daughter. She was the best nurse of all when I was recovering. We had some of the greatest times together during my recovery. My family became much closer through the experience of recovering from paralysis. This picture was taken at Deer Valley Ski Resort at the Stein Eriksen Lodge. Walking around with a walker was big milestone after my days of riding in an electric wheelchair. That Jazzy electric wheelchair was Fast!

After months of physical therapy, I learned to stand on my own. I needed the assistance of a walking cane for several months. This is a picture of my cabin in the high uintahs in Utah.

I became paralyzed in May and by October I could finally mostly stand unassisted. My balance was a little off and I still took many falls. Luckily I made it through and had the ability with the right immunoglobulin infusions and months of physical and occupational therapy. Guillain-Barre Syndrome was an unwelcome condition I never could have imagined. GBS occurs at a rate of about 1 in 100,000. 5% of patients die because they don't get to the hospital in time. The majorioty make a decent recovery while a number of patients are wheelchair bound for life.
