 Hola amigos de @BeEntrepreneur** A lo largo de mi experiencia en varios emprendimientos, he descubierto que el éxito de un proyecto creativo no depende únicamente de la habilidad individual, sino de la capacidad para integrar los recursos que el medio ofrece y transformarlos en bienes con identidad. Mi primer emprendimiento, **La Catedral**, surgió en 2012 junto al artista plástico Rogelio Ricardo, en una época en que la artesanía en Cuba se vendía en espacios improvisados, carentes de valorización.  Nuestra propuesta fue diferente: una tienda que no solo exhibía piezas únicas, sino que también narraba la historia detrás de cada material. Rogelio plasmaba sus pinturas sobre soportes artesanales, madera, cerámica, fibras, muchos de ellos elaborados por otros creadores locales. Mi rol consistía en organizar, promover y gestionar el negocio, pero el verdadero corazón del proyecto estaba en la materia prima: el barro rojo y negro, el caolín y el colín, abundantes en la región central de Cuba.   Estos recursos no eran simples materiales; eran parte de un legado. En Camagüey, los tinajones; en Sancti Spíritus, los murales cerámicos; en Las Tunas, las esculturas públicas y la cotidianidad. Hasta Las Tunas emigraron artesanos alfareros provenientes de Trinidad, que a su vez eran descendientes o emigrados de España y aquí construyeron varios tejares que ya no existen. De ellos provenían las piezas para construir la ciudad. |||| |-|-|-| La demanda de cerámica nunca cesa. Las ciudades cubanas, especialmente aquellas con núcleos coloniales, requieren constantemente de tejas, ladrillos y tuberías de barro para restauraciones. Estos elementos, que antaño se producían localmente, hoy son difíciles de encontrar, lo que encarece los procesos de conservación del patrimonio.  Aquí yace una paradoja: mientras el mercado necesita estos productos, la infraestructura para fabricarlos está subutilizada. El valor de lo auténtico, lo local y lo hecho a mano lleva implícito. Las manualidades y artesanías no son solo actividades económicas; son expresiones culturales que conectan al ser humano con su entorno, su historia y su comunidad.    La cerámica, en particular, tiene un valor histórico: en los años 80, se inauguró en Las Tunas una fábrica que aprovechaba los yacimientos de caolín y feldespato de Holguín para producir cerámica blanca. Sin embargo, con el tiempo, la industria desapareció, dejando abierta mayores oportunidad para los emprendedores. Este escenario es ideal para los emprendedores dispuestos a rescatar técnicas tradicionales y adaptarlas a las necesidades actuales. No se trata solo de vender artesanías, sino de cubrir un vacío en la cadena productiva.  Por ejemplo, ¿por qué no crear talleres que elaboren ladrillos, tejas, tubos artesanales con el barro local para abastecer proyectos de restauración? O ¿por qué no diseñar líneas de decoración contemporánea que fusionen el caolín tunero con diseños modernos? La materia prima está ahí; solo falta creatividad para transformarla. Los emprendimientos más sostenibles son aquellos que surgen de una conexión profunda con el entorno. Ya sea a través de la artesanía, la agricultura o cualquier otro rubro, el secreto está en observar qué recursos están disponibles, qué necesidades existen y cómo podemos ser el puente entre ambos.  En Cuba, como en cualquier otro lugar, la tierra ofrece sus bondades, barro, madera, fibras, pero es la visión del emprendedor la que convierte esos elementos en prosperidad. El reto no está en competir con la producción masiva, sino en destacar lo irrepetible: la huella del artista, la textura del material local, la historia detrás de cada pieza. My first venture, **La Catedral**, emerged in 2012 with the artist Rogelio Ricardo, at a time when Cuban handicrafts were sold in improvised spaces, lacking value. My role consisted of organizing, promoting, and managing the business, but the true heart of the project lay in the raw materials: red and black clay, kaolin, and colin, abundant in central Cuba. ||| |-|-|-| These resources weren't mere materials; they were part of a legacy. In Camagüey, they represented the tinajones (small earthenware jars); in Sancti Spíritus, ceramic murals; in Las Tunas, public sculptures and everyday life. Pottery artisans from Trinidad, who were themselves descendants or emigrants from Spain, emigrated to Las Tunas and built several tile factories that no longer exist. These were the sources of the pieces needed to build the city. |||| |-|-|-| The demand for ceramics never ceases. Cuban cities, especially those with colonial centers, constantly require tiles, bricks, and clay pipes for restorations. These elements, which were once produced locally, are now difficult to find, making heritage conservation more expensive. Herein lies a paradox: while the market needs these products, the infrastructure to manufacture them is underutilized. The value of authenticity, locality, and handmade is implicit. Crafts and handicrafts are not just economic activities; they are cultural expressions that connect human beings to their environment, their history, and their community.    Ceramics, in particular, have a historical value: in the 1980s, a factory opened in Las Tunas that took advantage of Holguín's kaolin and feldspar deposits to produce white ceramics. However, over time, the industry disappeared, leaving greater opportunities for entrepreneurs. This scenario is ideal for entrepreneurs willing to rescue traditional techniques and adapt them to current needs. It's not just about selling handicrafts, but also about filling a gap in the production chain.  For example, why not create workshops that make bricks, tiles, and handcrafted pipes with local clay to supply restoration projects? Or why not design contemporary decoration lines that fuse Las Tunas kaolin with modern designs? The raw materials are there; all that's needed is the creativity to transform them.  The most sustainable ventures are those that emerge from a deep connection with the environment. Whether through crafts, agriculture, or any other field, the secret lies in observing what resources are available, what needs exist, and how we can bridge the gap between the two.  In Cuba, as anywhere else, the land offers its bounty—clay, wood, fibers—but it is the entrepreneur's vision that transforms these elements into prosperity. The challenge is not to compete with mass production, but to highlight the unique: the artist's mark, the texture of the local material, the story behind each piece. Cuando era estudiante en Santa Clara trabajé un poco la alfarería en casa de unas amistades y te puedo decir que la demanda existe, pero las limitaciones también. Conseguir la leña para sostener un horno mediano puede ser todo un desafío, y sostener un horno que no sea de leña es sueño de una noche de verano. Si es eléctrico hay que trampear el contador, y hornos de otro tipo son imposibles en Cuba. Por otra parte, te sorprendería el clase patiñero legal que hay en cuanto a la posibilidad **LEGAL** de aprovisionarse de barro, el CITMA tiene diseñada una muy buena trampa de osos con ese tema. Es un trabajo muy bonito, demandado y necesario, pero está atragantado por varias cosas.

Yo diría que falta un poco más de voluntades y no precisamente de los emprendedores. Hace falta atención a los proyectos locales de los emprendedores, esos que resolverán los problemas, no los que llenen los bolsillos de los gobernantes. Wow! Me has traído una enorme cantidad de recuerdos al ver estas imágenes y leer tu experiencia... Sin dudas los yacimientos de Trinidad poseen una calidad en su diversidad digna de los más exquisitos alfareros. He tenido el placer de dedicarme a la alfarería durante mucho tiempo y aún respiro el olor característico de estos yacimientos cuando íbamos a buscar camiones enteros de barro para luego procesarlos. En Manicaragua también contamos con algún que otro yacimiento, pero solo son ideales para la elaboración de ladrillos y tejas. En el caso de la alfarería fina, trataré de no olvidar hacer algún post sobre algunos de los trabajos que incluso llegué a exponer en alguna que otra exposición de la ACAA.
