Saludos. La amiga @miriannalis esta semana en su programa Coordenadas de Bienestar desarrolló un tema por demás importante: cómo nos percibimos. Para los que no pudimos asistir ella dejó abierta la [invitación]( https://hive.blog/hive-131951/@miriannalis/iniciativa-triada-esencial-auto-estima-auto-valor-auto-imagen) a expresar la opinión sobre el tema, basándonos en el excelente material de la [publicación]( https://peakd.com/hive-131951/@jaineth/mi-primera-vez-en-holos-and-lotus-con-triada-esencial) de la amiga @jaineth, quien fue una de las ponentes en el programa. Acá comparto con ustedes mis reflexiones.

Todos, todos, sin excepción tenemos algún auto concepto, es la forma como nos vemos y cómo pensamos que nos ven los demás. Esa auto percepción va marcando nuestro paso por la vida. Así no lo hayamos pensado eso está allí, actuando para abrirnos o cerrarnos caminos. Por eso es  muy importante tomarnos el tiempo para reflexionar sobre cómo nos estamos percibiendo.

La imagen personal la vamos formando a lo largo de la vida, es un proceso complejo en el que intervienen muchos factores. Sin embargo, es en los primeros años de la infancia donde tomamos las referencias más importantes de lo que será nuestra personalidad. Lo vivido en esos años condiciona en mucho la estima personal.

Yo, por ejemplo, durante toda mi vida he sido reo de cierta inseguridad, una sensación que a momentos puede llegar a ser paralizante, que frena el tomar decisiones e iniciativas. En muchas oportunidades mi primera respuesta ha sido pensar que no voy a poder con la tarea, sin siquiera evaluar con calma y racionalmente si realmente pudiera ser competente para ello.

En mis reflexiones he llegado a la conclusión que esa imagen quizá la fui formando como consecuencia de haber sido demasiado dependiente en la infancia. 

Casi hasta la adolescencia padecí de un asma crónica, una enfermedad que para la época contaba con pocos tratamientos efectivos. En mis crisis más agudas mi madre pensaba que no iba a sobrevivir, por lo que vivía aterrada de que me volviera a enfermar.

Para protegerme de esos terribles episodios, donde casi me asfixiaba, ella me rodeó de restricciones. No podía hacer las cosas que hacían los demás. Jugar con tierra, tomar agua fría, sentir el sereno de la noche, comer ciertos alimentos, eran cosas que me estaban prohibidas.

>Everyone, everyone, without exception, has some self-concept, it is the way we see ourselves and how we think others see us. That self-perception marks our passage through life. Even if we have not thought about it, it is there, acting to open or close roads for us. That is why it is very important to take the time to reflect on how we perceive ourselves.

>We form our personal image throughout our lives; it is a complex process in which many factors intervene. However, it is in the early years of childhood where we take the most important references of what will be our personality. What we experience during those years has a great influence on our personal esteem.

>I, for example, have been plagued by a certain insecurity throughout my life, a feeling that at times can be paralyzing, that stops me from making decisions and taking initiatives. On many occasions my first response has been to think that I am not going to be able to do the task, without even evaluating calmly and rationally if I could really be competent for it.

>In my reflections I have come to the conclusion that this image may have been formed as a consequence of having been too dependent in my childhood. 

>Almost until I was a teenager, I suffered from chronic asthma, a disease that at that time had few effective treatments. In my most acute crises, my mother thought I would not survive, so she was terrified that I would get sick again.

>To protect me from those terrible episodes, where I almost suffocated, she surrounded me with restrictions. I could not do the things that others did. Playing with dirt, drinking cold water, feeling the serenity of the night, eating certain foods, were things that were forbidden to me.

De modo que fui creciendo con la  idea de fragilidad, de que cualquier cosa me podía hacer daño, de qué cualquier cosa me haría desencadenar el asma.

Por fortuna un poco antes de la adolescencia hubo ciertos cambios que me aliviaron sustancialmente el problema del asma, a la vez que me permitieron un poco más de independencia.

Cuando miro hacia atrás en el tiempo me doy cuenta que muchos de mis momentos de dudas los he superado gracias al apoyo de alguien. La vida ha sido muy generosa conmigo. Siempre he tenido al lado una persona que me ha dicho tú si puedes, atrévete, me han ayudado a superar la inseguridad. 

Algunos han sido seres anónimos, tal como aquella bedel del Pedagógico de Caracas que cuando estuve a punto de renunciar a presentar el examen de admisión — por estar convencido que no iba a aprobar— vio mi vacilación, sintió mi intención de retirarme de la prueba y no fue indiferente. Esa bella señora me tomó del brazo, me miró  con mucha dulzura y me dijo: ¡pase! ¡Usted va a aprobar…! Y así fue, aprobé, me hice Profesor y dediqué mi vida a esa noble Profesión de la Docencia.

Y así muchas veces personas generosas me impulsaron para seguir adelante. Con tanta generosidad recibida fui cayendo en cuenta que algo andaba mal con mi autoestima. Llegó el momento en que me pregunté: ¿por qué los demás sí podían ver mi capacidad y yo no?

Largo ha sido el proceso para mejorar esa imagen de mí, para convencerme que atreverse es necesario, que si la cosa no se da, pues no pasa nada, para aceptar que los fracasos son normales.

Un ejercicio que he practicado muchas veces es el que proponen las amigas, el mirarse en el espejo. Para mí ha sido normal pasar largo rato conversando frente al espejo con ese yo interior, interpelándolo, buscando la manera de entenderlo, diciéndole que cada quien es como es. 

Invertir tiempo en explorar nuestra interioridad bien vale la pena. Es muy sano convencernos que cada uno de nosotros es importante, que cada uno es un milagro de la vida. Todos tenemos nuestro sitio en el plan de la creación.

>Some of them have been anonymous beings, such as that janitor at the Pedagogical School of Caracas who, when I was about to give up taking the admission exam - because I was convinced that I was not going to pass - saw my hesitation, sensed my intention to withdraw from the test and was not indifferent. That beautiful lady took me by the arm, looked at me with great gentleness and said: "Pass! You are going to pass...! And so it was, I passed, I became a Professor and dedicated my life to this noble profession of teaching.

>And so many times generous people encouraged me to go on. With so much generosity I realized that something was wrong with my self-esteem. The moment came when I asked myself: why others could see my capacity and I could not?

>It has been a long process to improve that image of myself, to convince myself that daring is necessary, that if things don't work out, it's okay, to accept that failures are normal.

>An exercise that I have practiced many times is the one proposed by my friends, to look at myself in the mirror. For me it has been normal to spend a long time conversing in front of the mirror with my inner self, questioning it, looking for a way to understand it, telling it that each one of us is the way we are. 

>Investing time in exploring our inner self is well worth it. It is very healthy to convince ourselves that each one of us is important, that each one of us is a miracle of life. We all have our place in the plan of creation.
