En cierto modo aprendemos lo que vemos. Si de niños estuvimos rodeados de atropellos y maltratos es difícil que de adultos seamos amorosos. Claro, siempre hay sus excepciones. Pero el modelaje juega un papel fundamental en la manera en que establecemos nuestras relaciones con el mundo.

Hoy retomo la actividad del Challenge, me había saltado la parte tres por lo que ahora estoy retrocediendo una entrega. En este primer día el desafío es muy interesante, nos pide hablar de nuestros valores actuales.

Todos tenemos valores, aunque en algunos casos y por cuestiones de consenso hayamos decidido llamar valores solo a los de tipo positivo como el amor, el respeto, la solidaridad. A otros como el odio los llamamos anti valores. Sin embargo, esos anti valores son sencillamente los valores de algunas personas; que no estemos de acuerdo con ellos  y pensemos que son perjudiciales, lo que de paso es cierto, es otra cosa.

Tuve la suerte de ser criado por una familia que me brindó protección, apoyo,  y las normas con las que me fui abriendo camino durante la vida. A mis padres les debo los principales valores con los que he vivido.

Al día de hoy uno de los valores que considero más importantes es disfrutar la vida. Vivimos rodeados de cosas maravillosas, cada momento nos ofrece un sinfín de posibilidades. Queda de parte nuestra aprender a disfrutar con cada uno de esos detalles que siempre están a mano. La sonrisa de mi esposa o de mis nietas, el saludo de un vecino, el canto de los pájaros, una taza de café caliente, son cosas a las que ahora les presto más atención. En todas ellas es posible encontrar grandes satisfacciones.

>Today, one of the values I consider most important is to enjoy life. We live surrounded by wonderful things, every moment offers us endless possibilities. It is up to us to learn to enjoy each of those details that are always at hand. The smile of my wife or my granddaughters, the greeting of a neighbor, the singing of the birds, a cup of hot coffee, are things to which I now pay more attention. In all of them it is possible to find great satisfaction.



Otro valor importante en esta etapa es apreciar lo que tengo. Procuro estar muy pendiente de todo aquello que poseo y que es motivo de aprecio y agradecimiento. Así,  aprecio mi energía para hacer las cosas que necesito, mi disposición para escribir todos los días estas publicaciones, la compañía de mi esposa, el tiempo que dedican mis amigos a leer mis notas. En fin, cada día que transcurre me doy cuenta que en realidad tengo muchas cosas para ser feliz.

>Another important value at this stage is to appreciate what I have. I try to be very attentive to everything that I have and that is a reason for appreciation and gratitude. Thus, I appreciate my energy to do the things I need to do, my willingness to write these publications every day, my wife's company, the time my friends dedicate to read my notes. Hacer las cosas con amor. En nuestro día a día tenemos que hacer muchas cosas, algunas nos parecen agradables y otras no tanto. En otro tiempo las cosas desagradables siempre las hacía con desdén y mala gana, eso hace que resulte mucho más difícil y agotador hacerlas. Ahora procuro verle el lado bueno a esas cosas desagradables, y me he dado cuenta que si les pongo un poco de amor se me hace mucho más fácil poder encararlas sin tanto rollo.

>Doing things with love. In our day to day life we have to do many things, some we find pleasant and others not so pleasant. In the past the unpleasant things I always did with disdain and reluctance, that makes it much more difficult and exhausting to do them. Now I try to see the good side of those unpleasant things, and I have realized that if I put a little love into them, it is much easier for me to face them without so much hassle.

En un plano más amplio, ya ubicado en mi relación con los demás, uno de los valores que me parece más importante es el respeto y la tolerancia. Nuestro mundo se ha hecho extremadamente complejo. Las nuevas tecnologías nos ponen en contacto con una realidad cultural muy rica y diversa. En las sociedades más modernas conviven día a día personas de muchas creencias y costumbres distintas, por lo que el respeto es indispensable para lograr la convivencia civilizada.

>On a broader level, in my relationship with others, one of the values that seems most important to me is respect and tolerance. Our world has become extremely complex. New technologies bring us into contact with a very rich and diverse cultural reality. In the most modern societies, people of many different beliefs and customs coexist on a daily basis, so respect is essential to achieve civilized coexistence.

He sido profesor durante 45 años y actualmente sigo asesorando algunos estudiantes. En los últimos años el gran tema de todos mis cursos es  el respeto y la tolerancia. Me parece de suma importancia que las nuevas generaciones discutan mucho sobre estos tópicos, de este modo se van  formando una visión más amplia que la de las generaciones precedentes. Así es probable que el mundo pueda encontrar, paso a paso,  el camino hacia una convivencia en paz.
