Fue en la adolescencia cuando sentí la potencia que tenía la música para cambiar mis estados de ánimo. Por aquel entonces tenía cierta tendencia a la melancolía, era muy reservado y bastante solitario.
Mi casa estaba al final de una escalinata y cada tarde cuando regresaba del liceo me encontraba en la escalera a un grupo de muchachos escuchando música en un pequeño radio a batería. Una vez se me ocurrió preguntarles qué escuchaban, me dijeron que rock, una música desconocida para mí.
Encontrarme con el rock fue amor a primera vista. Aquella música me transmitía una gran fuerza. No importaba que no entendiera las letras, puesto que todo lo que se escuchaba era en inglés. Me fascinaba la rítmica, el sonido novedoso de las guitarras eléctricas y el sentimiento que trasmitían las voces. Ante aquella música poderosa mis tristezas se desvanecían.
Años más tarde conocí una muchacha que me introdujo en el mundo de la Salsa y la música clásica, lo que me abrió un gran panorama de otras sonoridades. En la música clásica he encontrado sonidos capaces de remontarme a otros tiempos donde los ritmos de la vida eran mucho más sosegados.
Una vez escuché una melodía en una película, aquellas notas se me quedaron sembradas en el oído. Pasé muchos años tratando de averiguar qué pieza era esa. Pero eran tiempos donde no existía internet ni youtube, y las personas cercanas a mí, familiares y amigos, no tenían ningún gusto por la música clásica.
Cuando salieron los compact disc compré una selección de música clásica y para mi sorpresa allí estaba la melodía que había estado buscado durante años. Se trataba de una composición del compositor alemán Johann Pachelbel. El Canon, perteneciente al período barroco y fue creada alrededor de 1680.

Escuchar el Canon es una gran experiencia para mí, siento que el sonido me va envolviendo, como si las notas me penetraran dentro, Me gusta escuchar esta pieza cuando estoy solo y en calma, es el momento cuando mejor la puedo apreciar.
Desde hace un tiempo me he interesado por conocer el efecto que tienen los sonidos en nuestro ánimo. Hay estudios que muestran como nuestro cerebro se excita o se calma ante determinados sonidos. Es un asunto al que hay que prestarle atención, porque podemos encontrar mucho bienestar escogiendo adecuadamente lo que escuchamos.
En la actualidad una de las cosas que más disfruto son los sonidos de la naturaleza. Vivo en una zona donde es fácil escuchar el trinar de los pájaros.
Un gran momento para mí es subir la montaña. Me gusta ir en horas donde hay poca gente. Allí es posible conectarse con el silencio, es maravilloso escuchar solamente el ulular de la brisa y el sonido de los pasos en la tierra. En realidad es una fortuna tener la posibilidad de poder suspender momentáneamente el bullicio de la ciudad.

Con el correr del tiempo he aprendido a valorar mucho el silencio. En mi vecindario extraño el silencio de otras épocas; sufro porque a toda hora hay ruidos de todo tipo, gente escandalosa que grita en la calle, escucha música a todo volumen y no tienen consideraciones con los demás. Ante eso solo me queda encerrarme en un cuarto con aire acondicionado.
En mi búsqueda del silencio he ido aprendiendo a meditar. No es algo que sea fácil porque nuestra mente es demasiado inquieta y siempre está allí creando ruido. Sin embargo, con constancia y dedicación uno va aprendiendo a fijar la atención en un pequeño detalle, unos usan mantras, otros visualizan imágenes, cualquier cosa que sirva de anclaje para cuando empieza la avalancha de pensamientos.
A mi me viene bien repetir la palabra “Amén” para lograr concentración. La uso a modo de mantra para acallar el ruido interno. Cada quien puede encontrar lo que mejor le funcione, en este aspecto no hay recetas, solo buscar algo que les permita entrar en el silencio.
El silencio interno siempre nos deja una gran sensación de bienestar, es algo que realmente vale la pena intentar. A todos les recomiendo que se atrevan con eso…

Years later I met a girl who introduced me to the world of Salsa and classical music, which opened a wide panorama of other sounds. In classical music I have found sounds capable of taking me back to other times where the rhythms of life were much calmer.
Once I heard a melody in a movie, those notes stuck in my ear. I spent many years trying to figure out what that piece was. But those were times when there was no internet or youtube, and the people close to me, family and friends, had no taste for classical music.
When compact discs came out I bought a selection of classical music and to my surprise there was the tune I had been looking for for years. It was a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. The Canon, belonging to the baroque period and was created around 1680.

It is good for me to repeat the word "amen" to achieve concentration. I use it as a mantra to quiet the internal noise. Everyone can find what works best for them, in this aspect there are no recipes, just look for something that allows them to enter into silence.
Inner silence always leaves us with a great feeling of well being, it is something that is really worth trying. I recommend everyone to dare with that...

Somos contemporáneos, apreciado Irvinc, y claro que oímos rock, y mi primera vez fue más o menos a tu edad, pero en una famiia como la mía, levantada con base en el joropo, el pasaje o la gaita, era como taxativo oír rock. Pero me ha agradado, y sa frase de @fernanblog me suena siempre con recuerdo a esos tiempos ***Yourock!*** En cuanto al silencio, me trajiste una remembranza de cuando hablábamos de que el silencio era un sonido, y más tarde aparecio una canción de nombre *Los sonidos del silencio*. Muy buen recurso la alicación de la palabra *amén* para tu mantra.

En mi casa se escuchaba poca música, la electricidad era deficiente y el único radio de pila lo usaba mi viejo para escuchar las noticias, la excepción era el sábado en la mañana cuando mi mamá escuchaba la historia de una canción.
