Les comento… Al leer la publicación de Mirianna varias cosas me llamaron la atención. Una, fue la excelente metáfora de vaciar el vaso para ilustrar la necesidad de deshacernos de todo aquello que limita nuestras posibilidades. También me gustó mucho la invitación a reinventarnos. Debo confesar que cuando escuché por primera vez, hace ya bastante tiempo, la palabra reinventarse esta me causó un poco de ruido. Me preguntaba con un poco de escepticismo: ¿por qué debo reinventarme…? ¿Acaso no he logrado llevar mi vida de una manera aceptable, he podido tener mi familia, mi trabajo, en fin…? En mi duda estaba presente la resistencia a la novedad. Por cierto, algo muy natural para la mayoría de las personas. Todos nos acostumbramos a ser de una manera, de tanto practicarla nos sentimos cómodos, nos da seguridad ser de ese modo. Por lo tanto es normal mantener cierta resistencia a la invitación a dejar de ser lo que hemos venido siendo. Sin embargo, cuando aprendemos a mirarnos con atención, a poner cuidado en los detalles, a fijarnos en las cosas que nos unen y nos separan de los demás, es posible que caigamos en cuenta de que algo no está bien. Y para mejorar ese algo es necesario reinventarnos. De otro modo, manteniendo nuestras mismas actitudes y valoraciones frente a la vida, será muy difícil alcanzar nuevos propósitos. <center></center> Para mí, por ejemplo, no ha sido fácil tomar conciencia de que en mi visión de la realidad ha estado presente una tendencia al pesimismo, algo que yo veía más bien como realismo. Si alguien me decía: estás viendo eso de forma pesimista, yo le respondía: pesimista no, realista. Estaba realmente convencido de eso. Con el correr del tiempo fui reflexionando sobre el asunto. Estadísticamente era imposible que las personas cercanas a mí, familiares, amigos, conocidos, coincidieran en el mismo juicio. Si todos opinaban que ese rasgo estaba en mí tenía que ser porque en realidad yo lo manifestaba. Un buen día dejé de darle vueltas al asunto, pude poner en pausa mis resistencias y acepté que era pesimista y que debía hacer algo al respecto. Pero cambiar actitudes nos es tan fácil como cambiarse de camisa, ojalá fuese así, nos evitaríamos muchos contratiempos, amarguras y desavenencias. Nuestras creencias y actitudes están ligadas a enseñanzas que hunden sus raíces en los tiempos más lejanos de nuestra niñez, por eso es tan difícil cambiarlas. Sin embargo, difícil no significa imposible. Quizá no podamos desaparecer del todo ese “background”, que para bien o para mal nos acompaña en cada momento de la vida, pero si podemos tenerlo consciente, matizarlo, y evitar que nos controle plenamente. <center></center> Entre mis propósitos del nuevo año está continuar ese proceso de reinvención personal, avanzar un poco más en mi autoconocimiento y en el control de mis respuestas emocionales. Estoy plenamente consciente que ese pesimismo anda por ahí agazapado, esperando el momento en que baje la guardia para reaparecer como una sombra que nubla el panorama. No dejarlo que mine mi energía es para mí una gran tarea. Me gusta pensar que la capacidad de ser mejores personas está al alcance de todos, no es algo que pertenezca a un reducido grupo de iluminados. Todos podemos avanzar en nuestro crecimiento personal. Si procedemos con convicción, seguramente que podremos cambiar, o por lo menos matizar, aquellas cosas que nos limitan. Have I not managed to lead my life in an acceptable way, have I been able to have my family, my job, in short...? In my doubt was present the resistance to novelty. By the way, something very natural for most people. We all get used to be in a certain way, we feel comfortable after practicing it so much, it gives us security to be that way. Therefore, it is normal to maintain a certain resistance to the invitation to stop being what we have been being. However, when we learn to look at ourselves carefully, to pay attention to details, to notice the things that unite us and separate us from others, we may realize that something is not right. And to improve that something, we need to reinvent ourselves. Otherwise, maintaining our same attitudes and evaluations towards life, it will be very difficult to reach new goals. <center></center> For me, for example, it has not been easy to become aware that in my vision of reality there has been a tendency to pessimism, something that I saw more as realism. If someone said to me: you are seeing things in a pessimistic way, I would reply: not pessimistic, realistic. I was really convinced of that. As time went by, I started to reflect on the matter. Statistically it was impossible for people close to me, family, friends, acquaintances, to agree on the same judgment. If everyone thought that this trait was in me, it had to be because I actually showed it. One fine day I stopped thinking about it, I was able to put my resistance on hold and accepted that I was a pessimist and that I had to do something about it. But changing attitudes is not as easy as changing a shirt, I wish it were like that, we would avoid many setbacks, bitterness and disagreements. Our beliefs and attitudes are linked to teachings that are rooted in the most distant times of our childhood, that is why it is so difficult to change them. <center></center> However, difficult does not mean impossible. We may not be able to completely disappear this "background", which for better or worse accompanies us at every moment of our lives, but we can be aware of it, nuance it, and prevent it from fully controlling us. Among my resolutions for the new year is to continue this process of personal reinvention, to advance a little more in my self-knowledge and in the control of my emotional responses. I am fully aware that this pessimism is lurking around, waiting for the moment when I let my guard down to reappear as a shadow that clouds the panorama. Not letting it sap my energy is a big task for me.
