Welcome once again dragon lovers, hope you are all doing well. This time I bring you an interesting topic that can help you understand your lizard better – shedding.

So to begin, shedding is a reptiles act of “changing its skin”. You will be able to notice a huge change in skin color before the shedding begins. The whole process usually lasts no more than a week but if it does, it doesn’t mean something is wrong. The best thing to do for a shedding dragon is just let them be and allow them to remove their skin naturally. Even if the dragon goes on to eat his own dismissed skin it’s not a problem, a lot of lizards do that. Here you can see my pet a day after having its body skin removed. You can easily notice the color difference on his back and legs.

Baby bearded dragons shed much more often than adult ones due to their rapid growth. When they are really small you can notice that shedding can happen even weekly. Later on when they become juvenile they will shed about 2 times a month and finally when they reach their adult phase they will shed only a couple of times a year. So to sum it up, a lot of things may go out of the ordinary during the shedding time: your dragon not eating, too much sleeping, eating his own skin, scratching on the rocks, rubbing his body against the surface etc.. 
And the most important thing is, none of these things are a reason to get worried. Just let your dragon have its way and remove all unnecessary skin the natural way.
