Good evening Hivers! A few days ago it occurred to me to talk about this topic: is it better to write on Hive or to be a freelancer and write articles for someone and be paid?
The food for thought was given to me by a tweet from @acidyo to which I also replied on twitter. The tweet attached a post on Reddit in which a user showed a screen shot of a $20 payment received for writing an article on commission. @acidyo rightly commented on the post, saying that on reddit we were getting excited about getting money for an article by taking advantage of the web offers, while here on Hive potentially everyone can make money from their articles without accepting commissions.
I replied by pointing out that not only on Hive can you earn money by writing articles, but you are even free of commissions! One does not have to work for anyone who commissions us to write an article!
In retrospect, I have had a chance to reflect on the whole thing and I would like to write my opinion on the subject by sharing my reasoning with you.
Let us start with a fact: being a freelance writer is a job and a job gives us a living. On the basis of this axiom, I do not feel the least bit judgmental about those in this profession. On the contrary, of course, in order to be able to work, and thus, earn money, they must necessarily accept commissions from individuals. I myself have tried some sites in the past that offered the possibility of writing articles requested by someone on a specific topic in exchange for a sum of money.
In this case, and only in this case, writing something for someone in exchange for money for me is obviously not comparable to blogging on Hive as the latter does not guarantee any monetary income to ensure that we can live our everyday lives.
But. Yes, there is a but. But if we change the factors at play then the game is turned on its head.
Let me explain: if we as a hobby engage in freelance writing and thus accept writing a paid article that is not part of our core business for a living, i.e. it is not our primary income for a living, then we are wasting our time and our work.
Why do I say this? Because the work and time we spend on writing a piece commissioned by someone in exchange for a sum of money, could be invested on Hive and personal blogging.
Writing and growing our profile and reputation, building the basis of our being on Hive, is definitely a great opportunity to try to build an extra income or more simply to try to build a long or medium term investment in this blockchain.
If I write something for someone for money, I will definitely have earned some dollars that I could use, but if I write something that I like for myself here on Hive I will definitely have used my time better.
Someone might say: 'Yes, but it is not certain that a post on Hive will secure you 20 dollars. Whereas a commissioned article secures it for you'.
Of course, if you are thinking that, you are right. But, here again there is a but, it is not necessarily so. Firstly, because if you write a quality post the community rewards you, and secondly, I think that building a good wallet here on Hive takes time. You cannot expect to have everything right away, but you will have to work hard to succeed.
So I repeat: yes, if writing is not what brings us bread at home (as we say in Italy to say that something gives you the money you need to live on) then writing as a hobby for me just means taking advantage of the opportunity that Hive and the whole Hive ecosystem offers.
Then there is another aspect that I think is interesting, writing on Hive and writing under someone's commission have a huge difference. This difference is: the subject you want to talk about, the topic you want to explore/treat... in short, what you want to write about.
Yes, because if you agree to write an article on commission, you cannot write whatever you want, but you must abide by precise rules dictated by the person commissioning the article. To give an example: if you agree to write an article that talks about 'how to be a dog walker' you must write about 'how to be a dog walker'. You have no chance. And here, in my opinion, you have another big flaw: freedom.
Writing under commission does not give freedom to the author, who must of necessity stick to the stated subject of the article. Besides, of course, adhering to another wide range of indications such as how many words the article should have, what it should be about, the topics it should deal with, etc. The penalty you have to pay if you do not abide by the rules is: no money, no fee.
Personally, I have rejected my past experiences with other websites that promised big money for writing commissioned articles, very often you just spent time without getting anything.
Here on Hive, on the other hand, the time you spend you spend on yourself and what you build you build for yourself. You have no masters, no commissions, no blackmail.
Writing on Hive is beautiful, it expands your capacity for expression, it allows you to create new relationships and acquaintances, it allows you to discuss hundreds of topics with hundreds of different people and above all it gives you the freedom to talk about what you want.
Importantly, and certainly not least, Hive gives you the opportunity to earn money by writing what you want, how you want, where you want and when you want, in your own time.
Hive is the best hobby I have ever discovered!

Buonasera Hivers! Qualche giorno fa mi è venuto in mente di parlare di questo argomento: è meglio scrivere su Hive oppure essere un freelancer e scrivere articoli per qualcuno ed essere retribuiti?
Lo spunto di riflessione mi è stato dato da un tweet di @acidyo a cui ho anche risposto su twitter. Il tweet allegava un post su Reddit in cui un utente faceva vedere lo screen di un pagamento di 20 dollari ricevuto per aver scritto un articolo su commissione. @acidyo giustamente commentava il post dicendo che sul reddit ci si esaltava per avere dei soldi in cambio di un articolo sfruttando le offerte del web mentre qui su Hive potenzialmente ognuno di noi può guadagnare dai suoi articoli senza accettare commissioni.
Io risposi facendo notare che non solo su Hive si può guadagnare scrivendo articoli, ma addirittura si è liberi dalle commissioni! Non bisogna lavorare per nessuno che ci commissiona di scrivere un articolo!
A posteriori, ho avuto modo di riflettere su tutta questa storia e vorrei scrivere il mio parere su questo argomento rendendovi partecipi del mio ragionamento.
Partiamo da un dato di fatto: essere uno scrittore freelance è un lavoro e un lavoro ci dà da vivere. Partendo da questo assioma non mi sento minimamente di giudicare chi fa questa professione, anzi, ovviamente per poter lavorare, e quindi, guadagnare dei soldi, deve necessariamente accettare commissioni da privati. Io stesso ho provato in passato alcuni siti che offrivano la possibilità di scrivere articoli richiesti da qualcuno su uno specifico argomento in cambio di una somma di denaro.
In questo caso, e solo in questo caso, scrivere qualcosa per qualcuno in cambio di denaro per me è ovviamente non paragonabile all'attività di blogging su Hive in quanto quest'ultimo non garantisce delle entrate monetarie che ci assicurino di vivere la nostra vita di tutti i giorni.
Ma... Si, c'è un ma. Ma se cambiamo i fattori in gioco allora la partita si stravolge.
Mi spiego: se noi come hobby ci dedichiamo alla scrittura freelance e quindi accettiamo di scrivere un articolo retribuito che però non fa parte del nostro core business per vivere e cioè non è la nostra entrata primaria per vivere, allora stiamo sprecando il nostro tempo e il nostro lavoro.
Perchè dico questo? Perchè il lavoro e il tempo che impieghiamo per scrivere un pezzo commissionato da qualcuno in cambio di una somma di denaro, potrebbe essere investito su Hive e sull'attività personale di blogging.
Scrivere e far crescere il nostro profilo e la nostra reputazione, edificare le basi del nostro essere su Hive, è sicuramente un occasione ottima per poter cercare di costruirsi un'entrata extra o più semplicemente per cercare di costruire un investimento di lungo o medio termine in questa blockchain.
Se scrivo qualcosa per qualcuno in cambio di denaro, avrò sicuramente guadagnato dei dollari che potrebbero farmi comodo, ma se scrivo qualcosa che mi piace per me stesso qui su Hive sicuramente avrò impiegato meglio il mio tempo.
Qualcuno potrebbe dire: " Si, però non è sicuro che un post su Hive ti assicuri 20 dollari. Mentre un articolo commissionato te li assicura".
Certo, se lo stai pensando hai ragione. Ma, anche qui c'è un ma, non è detto. Innanzitutto perchè se scrivi un post di qualità la community ti premia e , in secondo luogo, io penso che costruirsi un buon wallet qui su Hive richieda tempo. Non si può pensare di avere tutto e subito, ma bisognerà lavorare duramente affinchè ci si possa riuscire.
Quindi ripeto: si, se scrivere non è ciò che ci porta il pane a casa ( come si dice in Italia per dire che qualcosa ti da i soldi necessari per vivere) allora scrivere per Hobby per me vuol dire soltanto sfruttare l'occasione che offre Hive e tutto l'ecosistema Hive.
C'è poi da analizzare un altro aspetto secondo me interessante, scrivere su Hive e scrivere sotto commissione di qualcuno hanno una enorme grande differenza. Questa differenza è: l'oggetto di cui vuoi parlare, il tema che vuoi approfondire/trattare... insomma cosa vuoi scrivere.
Eh si... perchè se accetti di scrivere un articolo su commissione non puoi scrivere quello che vuoi ma devi attenerti a delle precise regole dettate da chi commissiona tale articolo. Per fare un esempio: se accetti di scrivere un articolo che parla di "come fare il dogsitter" tu devi scrivere di "come fare il dogsitter". Non hai scampo. E qui, secondo me, si ha un altro grande difetto: la libertà.
Scrivere sotto commissione non da libertà all'autore, che per forza di cose deve attenersi all'oggetto indicato per la stesura dell'articolo. Oltre, ovviamente, ad attenersi ad un'altra amplia serie di indicazioni come ad esempio quante parole deve avere l'articolo, di cosa si deve parlare, i temi che si devono affrontare eccetera. La pena che bisogna pagare se non ci si attiene alle regole è: niente soldi, niente compenso.
Personalmente ho bocciato le mie passate esperienze con altri siti web che promettevano grandi guadagni per la stesura di articoli su commissione, molto spesso si spendeva soltanto del tempo senza ottenere nulla.
Qui su Hive, invece, il tempo che spendi lo spendi per te stesso e ciò che costruisci lo costruisci per te stesso. Non hai padroni, non hai commissioni, non hai ricatti.
Scrivere su Hive è bellissimo, amplia la tua capacità di espressione, ti permette di creare nuovi rapporti e conoscenze, permette di confrontarti su centinaia di temi con centinaia di persone diverse e soprattutto ti da la libertà di parlare di cosa vuoi.
Cosa importante, non di certo l'ultima, Hive ti da l'opportunità di guadagnare scrivendo cosa vuoi, come vuoi, dove vuoi e quando vuoi, nel tuo tempo libero.
Hive è l'hobby più bello che abbia mai scoperto!
